I love a romance that's full of adventure. This story had me feeling with the characters. They were powerful characters without being overly dramatic or extreme in their behaviors. I also like stories that have multiple characters and have you wanting to read more. One of my favorite series related to this is Black Knights Inc. This series looks like it will be just as amazing if it continues like this book. Can't wait to see what happens next!
The Transporter offers lots of excitement and movement, and create for a amazing romance novel in that way. There is nothing really wrong with this novel. If you like street adventure, abused heroine, heroine on the run, mercenary hero, cold/killer hero, heroine undoes hero, damsel in distress, a bit of forbidden romance story lines... you may really like this one. Stop here and test out the sample! Here are my private thoughts beyond that. No spoilers regarding any twist or anything not explained in the sample/e good: Cecily Keegan, our heroine, is a sweetheart and very likable. She's not extremely bright but she's definitely not TSTL. I found her to be charming in her innocence, actually. I love a amazing damsel in distress story line, and this one has some amazing rescue parts as well. The pace is amazing and there's plenty of action and adventure to hold the story going. The character was not as noteworthy, but I loved how much he respected the heroine-that was a nice turn. I enjoyed some of the dynamics with the secondary characters in this one-some amazing female friendships and also a nice brother/sister e Neutral: Shane Sullivan, the hero, was a bit one dimensional. He's the cold, suave "always in control but this one girl undoes him" mercenary cliche. He is fine as a character with some cuteness about him. He didn't become a book boyfriend though. In this one, the heroine e Bad: The very title of this book (The Transporter) suggests a limited time frame in which to have a story and that was, indeed, a reality. The lust is instant, the love very fast. There were a lot of characters (setting up for a series) and some were developed more than others. The pacing was quick for me on this one. If this had been just a bit more developed, I probably would have given it four stars (either deeper hero, or a bit more on the plot, or both would have done it). But that being said, some readers really love this fast-paced excitement. My poor may be another reader's good.Overall I enjoyed this one. Recommended for fans of the above tropes. Lots of items to discover in this one. I will most likely read the series. I hope the next ones focus on the H/h more.
The Transporter (Hudson Kings #1) by Liz Maverick4 starsM/F RomanceTriggers: Abuse, Stalking, Kidnapping, illegal activityI was given this book for an honest review by Wicked is is a quick paced book with a lot of moving parts. There are also a lot of secondary characters that I hope will all obtain their own stories because there is a lot of tension and story-lines that tip at a much bigger story for everyone!Shane is just what the title says - he's a transporter. Just like that Jason Statham movie, it has related characteristics. Shane has this brooding, impenetrable personality and ultimate loyalty to his band of brothers, the Hudson Kings and is completely taken aback when he's asked to do his brother, Dex a private favor. He is only to pick up Dex's small sister and bring her back in to the safety of the Hudson Kings.Cecily has had a poor run, as of late. Her boyfriend wasn't the man she believed and despite her anger at herself, she's also damage by him. When she learns the real extent of James' betrayal, she handles it fairly level headed. I think that she was more upset with Dex's omissions and felt betrayal there too. I think that we could have had a lot more drama from Cecily, but instead, we were given a much more broad picture of the Hudson Kings as a have all of the brothers and even a few sisters in this group who are trying to do the right thing, even if it skirts the line of legal. Shane has never allow emotion cloud his ability to do his job, but somehow, Cecily was able to penetrate through to his core and now he will stop at nothing to create sure that she's safe, even if he's not able to be on the ground with is has a amazing underlying story between the members of the group and an unanswered question about James and his group. I hope that as the series moves on, we obtain more answers and obtain to continue to see where Cecily and Shane go.
This is intense, dramatic, romantic and amusing. Cecily is naive, brave and vulnerable. Shane is tough, stubborn and romantic. Together they are steamy, entertaining and fun. The storyline is brilliant and gripping. The characters are intriguing and amusing. It had my complete attention from the first page to the last. I can't wait to read about the rest of the Kings. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Goodreads. This is my voluntary and honest opinion of it.
Cecily and Shane are compatible in more ways than one. Their upbringing, mates and their definition of what is normal. Cecily doesn't care. She has found the one person who makes her feel safe. Shane still believes he doesn't deserve her. He will always hold her safe. Love the ending.
Amazing begin for a fresh series. The first I've read of Liz Maverick and I'm looking forward to more. I love the quiet, cold guys who don't think there's anything for them but the job. Cecily is a regular girl in a tough situation, and her brother sends Shane to support her out. Cecily doesn't become a screeching mess when she realizes there's more going on than she realizes, and she steps up to do her part, earning Shane's respect and more. Responses are straight on, the situations don't feel overly contrived, and the writing is intelligent.
The Transporter is the first of the Hudson Kings series, and I've already pre-ordered The Financier (book 2). LIz Maverick does a unbelievable job creating fully realized characters the reader wants to know. Shane and Cecily shouldn't create sense as a couple but, as the relationship evolved, this reader recognized its inevitability. This book also introduces the rest of the Hudson Kings and promises a series highlighting interesting and special characters, a promise I imagine LIz Maverick is well able to keep.
