I'm a Masters student in Mechanical Engineering, and have used this book for two combustion classes. I must say it's one of the worst textbooks that I've ever encountered. It doesn't explain most subjects very well, and instead relies on throwing a bunch of equations at you. There isn't even a decent nomenclature section. Originally I didn't even think there was one, but I later discovered it buried at the end of Chapter ick with Principles of Combustion by Kuo if you wish a decent combustion book that actually tries to teach you the material. If you wish to be bombarded with a series of complex equations with small to no explanation, go for this book.Oh, and the paperback edition isn't very well made. It doesn't like to stay begin to a particular page, and is starting to fall apart.
I rate the book not on its content, or on its relevance for engineers, but simply as a masterpiece of book manufacturing. The book falls apart after you begin it a few times. So now its almost impossible to work with, you can't return it because you need it for class, and anyhow, its in pieces so it can't be returned. And finally, you can't it as a used book if its in pieces. So you have spent a fortune on a cheap, useless, non-refundable non-sellable paperback. This is capitalism functioning like a fine-tuned violin. There must be some kind of business award for this. And what an invaluable lesson for the student: This is what's waiting for you, and how to excel at the game. I wonder how much of a the genius responsible for the manufacture of this book all fairness, its probably impossible to bring out a highly specialized book for a limuited audience at reasonable cost. One has to chop corners. I might also add that the huge, expensive, famous texts are not hard-bound. They are glued together so that they are nothing more than paperbacks with stiff covers. Left a latest Ed. of Thomas outside on a humid day and it came apart.
Don't expect this book to create you any in the field. Heavily skewed to applied Physics and Chemistry, especially in the beginning. Also a massive emphasis on gas combustion--and I'll obtain to that rst, out of the 1000's of plumbers, HVAC, and oil guys I've dealt with over the years, MAYBE 2, could tell me the makeup of the atmosphere--but they maybe right--who cares--only the oxygen burns-argon ain't gonna light your though the description claims this book will support you use your fresh combustion tester--good luck with that. It present three pics of some outdated troops without telling you how to take the values they spit out and adjust your burnerThen my largest beef is what the heck is with all the testing on gas fired units. Unless you're heading into a call with a CO leak and DEAD PEOPLE, no one tests the combustion of modern gas fired anything!!. There's no adjustment left on any modern gas valve, and most manufactures use fixed burner air slots, or have tamper resistant screws on them. The days of adjustable cast iron burners are long gone. No surprise however, it's because Goober and Gomer bought this book and started a campaign to fiddle with the manufacturer's settings and muck things up. If you charge someone for 'tuning' a gas fired heating unit, then you risk being labeled a ly, if you're an oil guy, look elsewhere. Small mention of anything heavier that #2, other than BTU content. Please tell me if the manufacture tells you to set the CO2 @ 11.5%, WHY would you wish to test for 15%? And just how do you obtain draft, smoke, CO2, stack temp, and O2 to play together? Why worry about flue CO since your chamber will be smokin like Cheech & Chong, screaming that combustion is incomplete? How much do I move the air slot to decrease CO2 1%? What does a flame look like with too much excess air? Do I take readings with the burner cover off? You won't search these answers W oil brothers, time to obtain with the times, and a combustion tester. The days of quickly pumping that foolish Fyrite full of flue gas before the burner shuts down are GONE BABY! No wonder no one takes it out of their truck anymore...oops... did I say that?So this book if you're a neophyte engineer, but if you obtain your hands dirty, you need another source.
This is very detailed book. Has a lot of information, but in simple to understand language. I'm not that intelligent but I like to learn and this book is perfect for that. I highly recommend it to someone looking to Learn about combustion and what to look for in analyzing it.
I recently purchased a combustion analyzer for use working in the HVAC field; however, I had only a primary idea of how to use the meter: this book was very helpful in understanding the principles of combustion analysis and helping me place the meter to use in the field as a tool for troubleshooting and tuning gas fired appliances. With a small practice, the info in the book has been useful in setting up for altitude, locating combustion air issues and even flame sensing issues. I would recommend it to anyone looking to obtain the most out of their combustion analyzer.
Simple to read and understand. The book explains the combustion process and why there is a need to test. The author shows pictures of the combustion tetsting process and explains how to do it correctly on both gas and oil fired equipment. It is the first book I have have found that explains what the values displayed on a combustion analyser mean, and what those values should be for a lot of various fuel burning simple reading. Written for the service tech.I would highly recommend this book to anyone installing or repairing fossil fuel fired equipment.
Some sellers indicate that this furnace motor part number has a shaft diameter of 1/4". That would have been a issue as the original had a shaft diameter of 5/16". Other prats would have had to have been replaced. But the shaft is actually 5/16" with flats for set screws. So it fit, the fan blows as it should and I'm happy.
Fit my hydroflame furnace in my 94 Lance perfect. Nice and quiet, no more squealing. Just a note on dissasembly to obtain to the furnace out to even obtain to the motor. I had to use a drift and hammer to break apart the sections of exhaust tubing as they were really rusted and stuck together. Aside from that it was an simple install.
Excellent fit, fixed the problem. I want all products worked this well.I was having problem getting the water heater in my camper to light. I swapped out the ignitor twice hoping that was the problem, no luck. Once I installed this board, my water heater lights first time, all the was simple to install and fit the existing mounting point exactly.
Works fine and excellent .. installation on to where to sold each wire on is not described ...The cheat for that is to look at the fuse on the plate the + wire goes to the one nearest it and the other 3 wires on the same method as they where on your former connector.Other than that it saved me buying a fresh boiler it works perfectly.
The unit was the respond to my issue BUT!!!! it did not come with the igniter and 2 amp fuse. Installed it with no response. Driving my stressed thoughts to extreme anticipating what rewiring the RV would involve. Staring at the control assembly I message the begin spades and realized this unit needed a fuse. My original did not. Alls well that ends well, sorta....
So I'm not sure if I got the wrong one or the connectors are various but this has been miserable to test and fix. I also replaced the eco/stat and cables. After replacing everything I fired it up and it worked excellent all day! The next day it just doesn't work. It sparks but there is no propane flowing all of a sudden . Not sure what would cause this or if this is just the wrong board, not sure. I also couldnt seem to obtain the wire sequence right, as it is different. Not sure if this is correct.
Without the pictured adapter this isn't really "universal". I ended up purchasing the adapter from another seller after I was told by this seller that the adapter was not necessary. Turned out not being a amazing by the time I spent an extra $15 for the part to connect to my factory harness.
I like this book, but I was very disappointed with the quality of the kindle edition. The text looks a small blurry in the kindle viewer, and when I tried pasting a screenshot of an excerpt one of the tables into a presentation,it looked terrible.
This is a classic book on Combustion. The book gives the readers (with some background in Thermodynamics) all the background knowledges that engineers in the field need to know. The explanations are concise and simple to understand with appropriate numbers of example. The coverage is also excellent, just gives all you would need to know on Combustion as a practicing engineer. I have owned a lot of books on the subject, and this book is the BEST one among all I have in by private library.
What didnt line up was the igniter mounting hole , a mounting screw goes in, but hole doesn't line up with hole from previous igniter . The mounting hole was little for screws, bigger screw was provided, the installation needed a applying the stare screwing from bottom into the softer metal bracket ( that needed you to pre-screw because the screws were to huge for the hole & it would be almost impossible to thread a screw with limited zone & torque abiliy. Softer metal lost its threading & became flimsy. A nut & bolt with lock washer will be what i use next.
I spoke to someone at Atwood prior to buying this item. I installed it this past weekend and my hot water heater started right up. I'm glad I purchased it and fixed the begin up issues I was having. Item was exactly as ordered and other that having to drill two fresh pilot holes (mounting holes are in a various put that my old one) to fasten the board to my trailer, it was simple to replace the old circuit board.
The material is amazing. However the material the book is created out of is cheap. I feel like if I read this book the pages will rip right out. I would like to highlight the material for reference but I would not be able to because of the material the pages are created out of... for the of this book it wont last. Invest in the hardcover of you would like it. I sure am.
PROS:The style of writting is very appropriate for beginners, it is easy, clear and NS:The graphics are awful, practically unreadable, they ruin the credibility of the whole en I found a PDF ver of the book. Graphics are conclusion is that the kindle edition needs more specialized graphics.
This was a needed text for a class. The info was good, but the book is poorly written with grammatical errors. The most frustrating part was the book did not clearly explain how to solve the equations presented. I consider myself to be fairly proficient in math, or was at one time. Unless you have recently taken a calculus class, or have a tutor, some issues are nearly impossible to solve. (The majority of my class has the same opinion).
Works beautiful good, but a bit more flimsy than expected. I was hoping to use just 1 to mount dead center on the back of a little (5x8) trailer that I have, so it wont hint package when not mounted to the car, but its a bit too shaky for my liking, so im gonna have to obtain another one and mount it on both a note, I have don't a dead center help using a scissor type jack and it worked just fine, probably cause it just does straight down, so the expectation that it be not shaky dad center alone, on such a little trailer isn't too much to ask.
Having just picked this album up, I am extremely happy with the flow, and richness of the music. Certainly it could go on to be one of my favorites. Pace and passion highlight its offerings, with the smooth background wrapping you up in the rich warmth of the eers,Britisheh
