This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate []  2020-2-2 12:8

I have been really impressed by some of Klein's previous writings. However, this book is too obsessed with demonizing Capitalism without recognizing human behavior as an actor. In a footnote she makes overpopulation a moral right of the helpless poor, not even recognizing the sexist oppression that is part of the culture of overpopulation The struggle versus human class division and a focus on social justice are very necessary political problems but they may be used to ignore our part in the mass extinction and mistreatment of species. The Anthropocene continues regardless of our political righteousness.I am shocked by the people who search Klein's prattle to be so meaningful, and timely. Global warming has been an understood science since the 1960s. While the extremist global warming deniers have been created to be a political force by the fossil fuel industry, the greater issue comes from the tragedy-of-the-commons. Almost no one wants to create the sacrifices needed. Blaming Capitalism won't help.I hope that Naomi Klein discovers Ecological Economics and brings it to her readers. Ecological Economics may have shades of Capitalism in it. But beauty is in the eve of the beholder, we can redefine capitalism. I would have given this book one star but I actually don't wish to @#$%-off other environmentalists. We need to proceed with maximum speed. Capitalism need not be a monolith, it can be a transitional tool. But define what you want. We obtain to define the future. Reading a book or articles on Ecological Economics would be much more productive than this book.

This book not only explains the what of the current carbon-climate problem, it explains the why, including why it is proving so difficult to create the transition to renewable energy. And while it fully delves the downside of our current trajectory and the vested interests that hold us there, Klein ends up making a powerful case for optimism in the midst of adversity. Its an optimism that is rooted in the belief of widespread grassroots activism as an antidote to unregulated capitalism, and as a means to restore the public is book is a key discourse in the unfolding dialogue spurred by climate change, and a must-read for the escalating numbers that are adding their voice to this most vital conversation.

While I agree with everything Naomi Klein has written, as I'm reading I'm wishing that she would have waited a few years to write this book. In light of the regressive policy record of the current administration on all aspects of the economy, the climate and the environment, I believe the crisis is now even worse than Ms. Klein portrayed back in 2014. With a lot of of the major players of Wall Street, Huge Fuel, Huge Ag, and Huge Pharma having been recruited into the Trump administration I just cannot see anything but darker days ahead for this country and, by extension, the rest of the world. Our EPA has now become the "Environmental Plundering Agency", and the Dept. of the Interior might just as well be called the "Dept. of the Ulterior (motives)". I truly believe that if the criminal occupying the White House wins a second term, our planet is doomed. Nothing short of a miracle would pull this globe back from the destruction brought on by another four years of these parasites.

This was needed for a course I took that was taught by an egotist trying to spread his opinion on the young malleable brains of todays college students. However, Klein's work does an perfect job describing the politics behind the Global Warming issue. There were numerous points she brought up that really created me think of how screwed up politics are, and how screwed the environment is. Definitely worth reading before or after the globe ends.

This may well be one of the most necessary books of the decade. It may also be one of the most depressing. It is informationally (is that a word?) very dense -- very dense. I have written computer models for the past twenty years and know a bit about their limitations, and about their value. Though this book is disturbing, I think it gives a fair assessment of the research regarding climate change and global warming.

Naomi Klein does not mince words as she shows how our lives of wealth and grasping for more wealth is contributing to climate change. She insists that our capitalism must change in to slow global warming. She has amazing suggestions for how this might be done. But it will annoy those who love their air conditioning and vehicles and air travel. It is not an simple read, but we need to attention.

Be warned, this is a very depressing book. It is also more than a small repetitive. It has value in the reporting on the environmental movements complacency and the climate change denial movement. There is also something to be said for the "technology will save us" conclusions (it won't.) Unfortunately, the net effect of the effort to report on what has failed and the staggering force of the political interests versus actions that would destroy the strong status quo leaves one with a feeling of total helplessness. The take away: Do what you can and encourage others to do the same; just don't expect it to solve the issue or change the inevitable outcomes. Read the Sixth Extinction by E. Kolbert. It will support with the understanding that domination is what our species does and we will destroy our host like all parasites incapable of establishing synergy.

This book makes very clear that we are facing a planetary disaster and have to fix this issue ASAP. There are a lot of steps to take but if enough of us help this effort we will succeed, and in so doing create the planet much more livable for all of us. The powers that be wish to deny that humans have anything to do with the problem. They are typically interested in preserving their own wealth and power. But it is crystal clear from scientific evidence that human activity associated with fossil fuels has made the problem. If we act now we can replace fossil fuels with environmentally safe renewable sources of energy, which will also make a lot of jobs and redistribute wealth in a more equitable way. If we fail to act soon we will not be able to stop the heating up of our planet and the results will be horrendous.

A very interesting book which I found well researched and informative if a small repetitive but hey its impassioned too. I found the work fired me up on the problems and created me wish to and read the author's previous work the shock doctrine which is equally good, though the climate book has a more private note to it and more insight into the author's own psychology through her story of trying to bring a kid into this globe with all that entails; after what she has written in the book. The writing is good, the facts plentiful and the arguments cleverly created and well laid out in what turns out to be an problem which can't just easily be dismissed, after all we just had one months rain in 2 days here with more to come and that isn't normal so its got create you think and wonder what are our true options on this climate problem and which method we should turn, if one thing is clear, you can't take the planet and its weather for granted anymore. There are solutions and these are brought up and examined in this book. Better begin doing something soon the future won't wait for us to think everything out first. Amazing work by this author I look forward to her future work and want her all the best with the fresh family.

Things have gotten worse since this book was written. Our capitalist system, referred to neo-capitalism, just isn't doing the job. Instead, we search fossil fuel interests steering us to ineffective non-solutions such as cap-and-trade or such gems as Methane is a transition fuel. And if we obtain past that, we search the WTO outright blocking action. The latter part of the book is more upbeat and talks about little actions taken versus fossil fuel interests. All of this is discussed in the book. It is well written and researched, and a must-read for anyone trying to save our planet and the life (including our own) on it.

It was a amazing android game until the ai attacked amd i could dp nothing about it. The onpy thing that kept me out of dent was that i have 450m in deposit so the ai didnt slay me A hint is hold the ai in debt and always invest in crashing stocks when they begin going up after 2 to 3 turns so you will always create a profit from them but the ai is method too hardcore to beat for begginers so it would support if you nerfed the AI.

The android game is amazing for the most part, you have some problems though and they aren't little move past it issues first the AI are invisible and I just about lost it when I saw one of them at 3 Billion in estimated revenue on the second month of my 3rd reset and then every month he would hit me I just got out of debt of 400 million I'm on the second year of this go and have not even a million to my net assets i own no property and on my second go I was doing much better until one of my opponents attacked me while I was away and he place me in a 5 billion dollar debt when my net assets was at 1 billion I was making about 30 million a month on that one on this fresh one 1.5 mill do you see the problem and you can spend over 20 million and your opponent take 0g hurt please remove or fix the AI they are 80 percent of the issue with the game. The other problem is with the stock shop theres isn't enough info about the previous months to be educated guess about where the stock is going.

When you begin the game, first Attack opponents non stop until you obtain them into milion dollars debt or more. Tap work screen until you earn 3-4 million and attack enemies. your gold bars for and attack. Aim is to have all opponents in debt all the time from the very start. Dont allow them develop because it will ruin your android game once opponents begin attacking you and taking all your money. Just attack and hold them in negative million or more.

I think that this book about China is very concise and gives the info you need for a full overview of the Chinese the book, there are sections the briefly talk about:Ancient Chinese DynastiesThe impact of Communism and Capitalism on ChinaHistory of ConfucianismA look at martial artsComprehensive look at old globe Chinese medicineTheir militaryEach of these sections give a very concise overview of the topic. I search it to be very helpful in giving my children a look into Chinese culture. With this overview, it allows us to have specific concepts and ideas that we can research and expand on.I have found this book to be a amazing support in understanding Chinese culture a bit more.

I am fascinated by The Asin culture so wanted more information. I'm satisfied with this book. The author covered a lot of more topics an I anticipated, with was fine with me. The book covers info on the various Chinese Dynasties over time, communism, and the a lot of governments it has had. Talks about Capitalisms role in history and how it shaped China, It's Military and their role. But my favorite read was about ancient culture and medicine, and marital arts history. I think the author did not go over board with useless information. Definitely a very amazing book to read.

Make Enterprise Great Again: The Gods Must Be Crazy!: Cradle of Communism to Catacomb of Capitalism: A Proposal to bring back the House of Roosevelt's []  2020-12-5 18:19

It was very interesting to see the contrarian perspectives of the author, which mainstream media hardly covers. There is too much info condensed in this short book, and at a time, it may feel cryptic and tailored to finance professionals. I understand the author may be trying to limit it as a short executive read. Hopefully, EPM Mavericks will consider developing a regular book with details. One zone I believe the author needs to focus on is the healthcare system in the US which the whole globe is looking up to for getting the pandemic under control. There may be a couple of repetitions too – but I understand the author may be trying to stress the points. I need to read it at least one more time to have a better grasp of the cryptic messages.

Like the author, I too migrated from the God's Own Country, the Indian state of Kerala. For the past two decades I have been riding the Silicon Valley unicorns. I do have some insight from the Silicon Valley IT perspective. But the extent of financial info brought out by the author supported with data is impressive. The unicorns are popping up everywhere, but the extent they are moving the east is shocking. As the author pointed out, our technology companies are losing their MOJO. Above all, venture capital and tech start-up economy are creating a dangerous, "high stakes Ponzi scheme." I hope our leaders will wake up before it is too late.

Ancient China has always fascinated me. Not only does this book provide a history of China, it also manages to cover that of East Asia. This is definitely a must read and I would highly recommend to my mates and family. The part that interests me most are the various time periods in which civilizations thrived. This book lays out in what you’re to learn and how you’re to learn it and it couldn’t be any easier of a read.

Make Enterprise Great Again: The Gods Must Be Crazy!: Cradle of Communism to Catacomb of Capitalism: A Proposal to bring back the House of Roosevelt's []  2020-12-5 18:19

The author has done a amazing job in analyzing the current economic situation in the US including the effects of the dominance of finance capital and the relatively anaemic growth from Reaganomics and “trickle down economics”. While he does not recommend the Chinese model he does mention that China has grown 30 fold in the same time that the US grew two fold. As the path forward, he proposes a return to FDR and Teddy style of leadership as the need of the hour. He proposes a “Marshall Plan” kind of active intervention by the US to counter the rise of China and the spread of its tentacles via efforts like the “New Silk Road” and the BRI (Belt and Street Initiative). A few questions i have about the analysis the author provides are- (1) There is a focus on the “Nation State” are the predominant force. I wonder if the rise of MNCs that transcend national boundaries and non-national players in the globe of finance capital like IMF, Globe Bank etc also need to be taken into acc (2) There could be a small more discussion on what the proposed framework solution would entail — during FDRs time the marginal income tax rate was very high (94% in 1944, for instance) while today it is nowhere at those levels which will pose a challenge for any “Marshall Plan” style intervention (3) There is a tone in the book where FDR (and also Ted Roosevelt) is presented as an architect of a fine capitalist foundation and a reference to China as a socialist enemy. FDR, it seems to me, propounded socialist ideas and in a lot of ways was to the left of even Bernie Sanders. China is now effectively a capitalist country with a ruthless but successful model. Some discussion of this complexity would be a amazing thing to look at in future editions of the book. The book is a short read and it has to be acknowledged that it is impossible to talk about all of this without increasing the book size significantly. One recommendation i would have is to chop down some repetitive elements in the book (for eg, the proposed framework gets repeated quite a few times) and use the saved zone to slightly touch on interesting elements of the complexity here.

The author has done a amazing amount of research on data that is presented in the book. I believe the author could have used more formal language in some locations to convey the message. Also, it would have been better if the reasons behind some of the hypotheses were clearly stated. However, there are several interesting perspectives presented here that should not be overlooked by politicians and business leaders.

This book provides an in-depth look at the people, events, customs, and traditions that shaped Chinese history. I was particularly interested in the distinction between the dynasties, and the birth of Chinese medicine and Kung Fu. An perfect method to learn more about an often misunderstood country and culture.

Saji starts by throwing quite a few grenades with quite some impact. It begins as a ramble, then it becomes a rant by a mortal shaking his fist at a unfair world. Then it gradually begins to create sense. While his messages are sometimes cryptic, there is a way to the madness and even a solution. This book is deep but one has to read between the lines. The author has done a bit of research and in a lot of method explains why things are the method it is and what could be done. He repeats his 11 points to revive Enterprise several times. My favorites are Leadership, Diplomacy, STEM, and, Research & Strategic Technology. (something absent with the orange buffoon and with a third of the American populace, especially Leadership and Diplomacy)I think Saji tries to respond the question whether there is any such thing as Socially Responsible Financial Engineering. His point about Ivy League business schools and high-end specialists ending up on Wall Road practicing extreme financial engineering struck a chord in me (a computer systems architect in financial services). I was reminded of an article by "Rana Foorahar" - "Want to Slay Your Economy? Have MBA Programs Churn out Takers Not Makers". It affirms and validate Saji Madapat's colourful anks Saji for your insight!. It has created me shake my fist at the globe too!

A very comprehensive book on the history of China and East Asia. Simple to read and understand. The book covers a wide range of subjects from the era clearly. Although it goes through a lot from ancient China to modern day, it doesn't drop the ball on anything, giving just enough info to hold any reader interested. I especially liked the style of writing which was personal. Felt like listening to a mate discuss a subject that interested him enthusiastically. I thought I had a amazing working knowledge on the era, but I learned things I didn't know in this book and was able to compare ancient China's development with Europe. I also found it interesting to learn so much about Mao. Imagine executing millions of people only to explore your system crashed because the farms were gone? So, millions more starve. And yet, communism still goes powerful and he is still revered. Wow!

Saji writes a truthful and eye opening report on how the U.S. Capitalism is failing. He talks of the growth of China as an economic force that the globe should worry about. Saji writes of several problems which must be faced in to continue being the leading super power that we were 3/4 of a century ago. He writes of the need to return to policies of the Roosevelts who developed a capitalistic society that works for all. Thank you Saji for this eye opening reading.

All of the functions aside from melody playing and shuffling require premium. You can't share or save a sound, you can't set it as a ringtone, alarm or notification, you can't change the theme, you can't even change the THEME, that's probably the most primary thing! ALL the things they advertise require premium, or an ad (but those never work.) Melody is of perfect quality and plays full songs though.
