    This book might change the course of your life if you apply its lessons quickly. Well written and well researched with the very recent charts and info to learn from. The author has years and years of experience in the sector and lays out a few easy steps to pave the method to financial freedom in the midst of what we are about to step into regarding the inevitable collapse of the global economy. I personally started this journey about a decade ago so can attest that this info is not only timely but accurate as you stand to gain the most when you obtain in early. There are a lot of investment books out there but this one is short and to the point with everything you need to know. I created a couple changes to my portfolio based on what I learned and I’m confident that it will pay off in the long run. This book couldn’t have come at a better time as most people haven’t figured out what’s going on yet...when the mania sets in you’ll wish to already have your ducks in a row. I’m looking forward to it:) Amazing read overall!

    This book was such a amazing find. I’ve been spinning my wheels for so long trying to grow my business thinking of marketing the “same old way” and not getting the results to take me to the next t only does the author educate you on what it takes to connect with your target audience but she gives you true globe examples and tactics to support you grow your customer base.I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to shop in today’s media climate. Times are changing and the method people create their buying decisions are changing too. I’m so excited to begin truly connecting with my customers and to bring value in a whole fresh way.

    The first edition of this book saved me from a horrible reaction I was suffering with for over two years. How a lot of doctors ever ask how're you doing on a fresh med or has anything changed? Any? Usually they either renew or up the dose. I was able to borrow the book and have since purchased copies to give to people it might help! As a nurse I am upset about how prescriptions are never questioned.

    All I can say is I was validated by this book as I watched in tears,fears and questions as my once almost excellent loving husband became everything he never was. Cold,cruel,forgetful,no empathy,no remorse,no conscience and even explaining and trying to point it out doesn't help. I have lost him. I fear he is gone forever. After 40 years of what was a blessed ( or should have been) life and kids and now grandchildren the bizarre and out of hero behavior destroyed our lives and that of the whole family. Took me years to figure it out and I had an aha moment that the nightmare started with the psyche . I truly believe he has permanent brain damage. Impossible to have a heart to heart or a reasonable conversation . There is no reasoning nor rational discussion about ANY subject. It has ruined us and the family and our finances. EVERYTHING. SO sad. I blame ALL the shootings on these . Horrible. Thank you for validating my years of reseach and aha moment Dr Breggin. I so which people realized this is a ged nation ad it is all about BIG (multi-billions) cash and BG business and they don't care that they have caused chemical lobotomies ( my term ) and family ruin not to mention the innocent victims in the path. They cause an "I don't give a S*&^" attitude and lack of enjoyment because as they numb your sad/bad feelings they also rob your joy and love of life and others. Must ysician induced addictions with poor withdrawals the don't tell you. I know all my mates and there grown kids are on them and didn't know but trusted there Dr. Hot flash medication turned out to be a psyche one my mates ended up in ER after not taking it and told she has to stay on it the rest of her life or have these poor withdrawals,even dangerous. :(

    I take problem with Publisher's Weekly for saying the authors are dogmatic. Unfortunately, few people understand what is going on with the industry unless they've been caught up in the hell of discontinuation y publications are afraid to speak out versus the strong companies. Some of these are supported by advertisements.Few doctors see what is event because they are doublebooked, getting their patients in and out. Psychiatrists prescribe all too easily. And a lot of patients who take psych are not supervised by their doctors to check for adverse affects.I salute Breggins and Cohen for taking risks to go versus the strong status quo. Because of them, people who have developed an accidental dependence on these have somewhere to turn to figure out what to do.I tried the Effexor once, and I felt like jumping out the window. My doctor told me to hold taking it for two weeks to see if I adapted. I couldn't obtain through another day.I am also one of a lot of who stumbled upon the Klonopin. I took it for a few months only, and it has taken me over two years to discontinue the . I'd previously taken tranquilizers with no issue stopping. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd obtain violently ill while tapering off these .I have met others in a related situation who've been diagnosed "bi-polar" because the withdrawal symptoms from these create people appear crazy. Consumers and their doctors need to learn the truth about these . And Your May Be Your Issue tells it like it ter discussing symptoms caused by different psych , the book explains how to taper with the 10 percent way and goes over symptoms of withdrawal. The authors give guidance to support therapists use other tools besides treating their patients with . And finally, there are some amazing suggestions on how a depressed or anxious person may obtain back on r May Be Your Issue is a courageous book that will enlighten readers who have given control of their minds and bodies to their doctors, companies and the FDA.

    As someone who has been on antidepressants for 14 years since age 11, I found this book both helpful and a small discouraging. It was helpful because it's very informational and I did learn things that I didn't know before especially about withdrawal symptoms, side effects, how these are approved by the FDA, and a guideline for length of time needed to safely discontinue use of antidepressants and other tactics to manage mental health on your own. The part that was discouraging was the author is very strongly versus psychiatric medication which is fine but he really drove home all the poor side effects and difficulty of withdrawal and other negative things over and over to the point where it feels like if you've been medicated for a long time there's no hope. I appreciated the forthright info but just beware the first huge chunk of the book may not create you feel that amazing if you have been on meds for awhile and are already feeling stuck. I also was hoping for more specific dose tactics for tapering off - I just figured out that the kindle edition I read doesn't include the 10% taper way in chapter 8.. Not sure why it was removed?

    I came across this book while trying to google a cure for my depression. I was after this excellent that would definitely give me exactly the kind of chemical balance that I required to lead a normal life. It all happened five years ago and I am so glad to this day that what I found was diametrically opposed to what I was looking for: while searching for this cutting edge that would quickly solve all my problems, I found some hope to support me quit the ones I was already taking, that is, Dr Breggin's book. It helped me understand myself better and how those were "solving" and creating fresh issues at the same time. As for a lot of of the comments I've just read, he never says the solution to your issues is quitting your medication and that's it. No way. Instead, he says you can search a whole globe of solutions through love, understanding, therapy, etc... he never says quit your medication and be happy. And those who tried to benefit from the book without even reading it are really on the wrong path. Take your time reading it and thinking about the fresh things you will certainly learn. The author wants you to see that there are several various healthier possibilities to address depression and its symptoms. Just don't take the "easy" method out because you're very likely to regret later. I did. It worked for me and a lot of other people who told me related stories. Will it work for you too? I have no idea. I didn't just quit my meds (as a lot of people insist this is the only thing that this book tells you to do), I opened up my eyes and saw therapy, understanding, acceptance, yoga, health meal and exercise instead of medication. That's what I learned. It took some time until I found the balance I was looking for. It wasn't simple but certainly more humane, if you like.

    As someone who has been on antidepressants for 14 years since age 11, I found this book both helpful and a small discouraging. It was helpful because it's very informational and I did learn things that I didn't know before especially about withdrawal symptoms, side effects, how these are approved by the FDA, and a guideline for length of time needed to safely discontinue use of antidepressants and other tactics to manage mental health on your own. The part that was discouraging was the author is very strongly versus psychiatric medication which is fine but he really drove home all the poor side effects and difficulty of withdrawal and other negative things over and over to the point where it feels like if you've been medicated for a long time there's no hope. I appreciated the forthright info but just beware the first huge chunk of the book may not create you feel that amazing if you have been on meds for awhile and are already feeling stuck. I also was hoping for more specific dose tactics for tapering off - I just figured out that the kindle edition I read doesn't include the 10% taper way in chapter 8.. Not sure why it was removed?

    Breggin definitely has a powerful and outspoken position versus psychiatric . He presents a lot of insights on psychiatric that are difficult to search elsewhere.     I came across this book while trying to google a cure for my depression. I was after this excellent that would definitely give me exactly the kind of chemical balance that I required to lead a normal life. It all happened five years ago and I am so glad to this day that what I found was diametrically opposed to what I was looking for: while searching for this cutting edge that would quickly solve all my problems, I found some hope to support me quit the ones I was already taking, that is, Dr Breggin's book. It helped me understand myself better and how those were "solving" and creating fresh issues at the same time. As for a lot of of the comments I've just read, he never says the solution to your issues is quitting your medication and that's it. No way. Instead, he says you can search a whole globe of solutions through love, understanding, therapy, etc... he never says quit your medication and be happy. And those who tried to benefit from the book without even reading it are really on the wrong path. Take your time reading it and thinking about the fresh things you will certainly learn. The author wants you to see that there are several various healthier possibilities to address depression and its symptoms. Just don't take the "easy" method out because you're very likely to regret later. I did. It worked for me and a lot of other people who told me related stories. Will it work for you too? I have no idea. I didn't just quit my meds (as a lot of people insist this is the only thing that this book tells you to do), I opened up my eyes and saw therapy, understanding, acceptance, yoga, health meal and exercise instead of medication. That's what I learned. It took some time until I found the balance I was looking for. It wasn't simple but certainly more humane, if you like.

    All I can say is I was validated by this book as I watched in tears,fears and questions as my once almost excellent loving husband became everything he never was. Cold,cruel,forgetful,no empathy,no remorse,no conscience and even explaining and trying to point it out doesn't help. I have lost him. I fear he is gone forever. After 40 years of what was a blessed ( or should have been) life and kids and now grandchildren the bizarre and out of hero behavior destroyed our lives and that of the whole family. Took me years to figure it out and I had an aha moment that the nightmare started with the psyche . I truly believe he has permanent brain damage. Impossible to have a heart to heart or a reasonable conversation . There is no reasoning nor rational discussion about ANY subject. It has ruined us and the family and our finances. EVERYTHING. SO sad. I blame ALL the shootings on these . Horrible. Thank you for validating my years of reseach and aha moment Dr Breggin. I so which people realized this is a ged nation ad it is all about BIG (multi-billions) cash and BG business and they don't care that they have caused chemical lobotomies ( my term ) and family ruin not to mention the innocent victims in the path. They cause an "I don't give a S*&^" attitude and lack of enjoyment because as they numb your sad/bad feelings they also rob your joy and love of life and others. Must ysician induced addictions with poor withdrawals the don't tell you. I know all my mates and there grown kids are on them and didn't know but trusted there Dr. Hot flash medication turned out to be a psyche one my mates ended up in ER after not taking it and told she has to stay on it the rest of her life or have these poor withdrawals,even dangerous. :(

The author demonstrates time and again that twenty somethings with focus and jobs and goals are happier and less adrift than those who are attempting to have the time of their lives. Furthermore, the twenties are a time to lay valuable foundations for the rest of your life, whether that be in terms of education and starter jobs or in terms of dating individuals you might have a future e book is divided into three sections: Work. Love. The Brain and the Body. Without summarizing her actual book, allow me point out some of the author's particular gems (from my perspective).WORK. There is a difference between jobs that build "capital" and jobs that can be lumped into the category "The Starbucks Years". Your best opportunities are found among your "weak ties", not among your Urban Tribe of like-minded thinkers. Don't buy into the myth that everyone else's life is better just because of their carefully-managed Fb Don't like the family you were born into?     I found this book very helpful. I think anyone in their twenties who don't know what they should do with their life should read this book.Dr. Jay does not say that young people in their twenties who don't have a steady job are doing it wrong, or that thinking about a career or love later in life is a poor thing. She merely states (accurately) that all our actions have consequences and if you wish a career and kids in your thirties that you should begin thinking and planning those things in your twenties. She says that your years post-graduation matter and that the executives and experienced specialists in the workplace got there by having years of work behind them. You don't turn thirty and become an experienced professional by magic, it takes e also offers solid concrete wisdom on dating, marriage, finding a job, health, hobbies, and the rest. I found her approach not off-putting but motivating. Overall a very useful book.

    If you're asking yourself questions like "Why am I unsatisfied with an endless stream of hook ups?" or "why is my unemployed life so unsatisfying?" then this book might be amazing for you. Most of her tip work similar tip is basically "Get a professional job", most of her love tip is "don't settle" (my favorite - don't move in with a romantic partner you don't plan on marrying - didn't realize this was a thing?), and most of her brain tip is basically rehashed huge 5 theories, the somewhat debunked 10,000 hour rule, and that confidence does not come from the inside but the outside. Of course I am not a Ph.D psychiatrist, however it seems to me that confidence requires both inside work & outside validation.I sought this book out to support me with what you could call a quarter-life crisis. As a 25 year old with a well paying job in the tech sector, the tip "just obtain a job" doesn't really apply to me anymore. My concern isn't what job to work, it's the fact that I'll be doing this @#$% for 40+ years. Her clients bring this concern up, but she's beautiful dismissive about any true solution to it - basically saying "just begin somewhere, worry about it later". One of her clients considered it a victory to go from her 9-5 to going home to watching TV/doing nothing for her free time. This is exactly what I am striving to avoid. In a related vein, her "advice" on dating & self development was low-tier and not really the content for most concerns of me or those "twentysomethings" in my mate group. We've all heard "don't compare yourself to social media" 1,000 times. If this is what it takes to be a best seller, then my confidence in the self-help genre is destroyed. I was so frustrated with this book and how unrelateable it is to me that I actually am submitting this review (Literally my first review of any product on amazon).I give it 2 stars instead of 1 because there was SOME interesting/helpful info - for instance the chapter on fertility was nice to know about. The chapter on Identity Capital was fresh info to p this book and buy something more useful. I'd recommend Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Siddhartha by Hesse, or Man's Find For Meaning by Frankl.

    Ever since my insomnia started due to anxiety I have been nonstop googling "insomnia" and looking at internet resources involving anything sleep related. I came to the conclusion that I would die... Not exactly sure of what but just that I was not okay... Until I read this book! Even after reading the first few chapters I found myself sleeping better. As Dr. Winters writes in the book, there really is something to understanding how sleep works! His words about insomnia were comforting because it really is just fear and understanding that concept is super helpful. When you google insomnia all you hear is how detrimental it is when really, as the book clearly states, insomnia is very various from actual sleep deprivation. I required to hear that! My body will sleep when it needs to was another amazing concept. I was downright sad when the book was over. It was such a comfort to me!My sleep isn't excellent still as I continue to war with my anxiety on a everyday basis, but just the peace of understanding what's going on and working towards improving my problems has helped a lot! YES, I will sleep. NO, I Won't die from insomnia.

Amazing stories.I've given away a case of these books, and every single person receiving it said it was exactly what they required to tutorial them in making major decisions toward a better life. (Many of the twenty-somethings I gave the book to said they HATE to read... which doesn't apply when given the secrets to solving the overwhelming anxiety that comes to those stuck in their twenty's or the caregivers of those who are trapped there).

    Wow!! I would one hundred percent recommend this to anybody in their 20s, or anybody who has children in their 20s, or anybody who will be in the 20s one day. All of you – read this book. Immediately – not to sound bossy… (even though I definitely am). It really opened my eyes, and also created me feel all warm and fuzzy and humble to know that all the problems I’ve been having (as a babe in my 20s) are experienced by others too!! Other crazy 20-something folks who, like me, feel a small confused by this messy, wonderful, stressful, and overwhelming thing called life. The author, Meg Jay does an awesome job of making it all seem perfectly normal! So here I go Meg Jay, off to be intentional, obtain to work, pick my family, create my own certainty, and decide my life right now. And if you like this review follow me on Ig @rd for more :)

    I read Dr. Meg Jay's NY Times piece on co-habituation (...) which lead me to ordering her book. I received it yesterday and read it in one sitting. So, I think it's beautiful a twenty something, I would recommend this book to my mates and even those still in high school. Dr. Jay teaches lessons about how to ideally approach one's twenties and why it really matters. She interweaves research, stories, and counseling sessions with her patients to create a thought provoking but simple book to read. In a lot of of those patients, I saw my mates or myself. There was the twenty something coffee barista still waiting for the right opportunity to come by. There was the attractive and successful, girl chronically hooking up and never dating because she's still plagued with teenager, self-image problems. There was the bicycle guy wanting to be original and afraid of settling down. What they all have in common is this intense desire to know, "Am I going to create it? And what the hell should I be doing in my twenties? School was so easy, but life is so hard."This book isn't a step by step guide. It won't go into how to systematically meet guys/girls, obtain over depression, or how to do well on an interview. There are plenty of books on getting into the details. Instead, this is a thought provoking book aimed versus the famous twenty something zeitgeist today that, "we can do anything", "there's always time", and "I have until 30 to obtain my life together." Not to mention the million other stories we tell ourselves like, "I'm never going to obtain amazing at this", "It's better to wait rather than choose", or "Everyone on Fb is doing better than me." In a sense, this book is like "Rich Dad, Not good Dad" to private finance. They are paradigm shifting books that sweep away the false assumptions and beliefs we acquired from our childhood and culture and replace them with solid, true principles on how reality works. This book isn't going to do the massive lifting for you, only you can do that. Besides the physical brain, Dr. Jay also talks about the mind such as learning how to calm yourself down, how to develop confidence (rather than believing it's fixed), and that you can radically alter how you feel by changing parts of your also has a very frank chapter on fertility and that ladies don't have as much time as they think to have children. The final chapter before the epilogue talks about mapping your years to see how limited your time truly is. It seems common for a lot of young people to talk about getting their career in order or going to graduate school eventually, getting married, and having children but not all at the same time. Except, when you're 25 or 27 saying this, you're quickly running out of 's hard to convey in a review how amazing the book is. This is the book I want I could have written in ten years. Not just because of the advice, but because of the patient interviews. I found myself agreeing and sharing the same POV as the patient a lot of times but through the counseling session, it was almost like I was sitting there and seeing my own assumptions fall apart and seeing the truth for what it really is. This book doesn't knock you over the head with what Dr. Jay thinks is right but begins from where you already are and lets you see for yourself the issues in your logic. Just as any amazing psychologist is isn't your run of the mill tip book. There's a lot of famous myths and assumptions that this book dispels with cold, hard truth. I'm a self-help addict, and there was plenty of fresh info I never heard or thought of e underlying notice in all the stories and chapters is begin living your life now. Take responsibility. Don't believe the lies that your twenties don't matter or that confidence is only innate. For most people, the late night parties, pointless jobs, and random hookups won't be what build your identity, what you care about or remember in the future. If anything, as Billy in the book says, you will probably feel betrayed that you wasted the best years of your life doing all the meaningless things that culture and others mislead you to believe most important. So, begin preparing now because the investments (or lack thereof) that you do in your twenties will have the greatest impact in your career, marriage, and overall happiness. As she ends the book, "The future isn't written in the stars. There are no guarantees. So claim your adulthood. Be intentional. Obtain to work. Pick your family. Do the math. Create your own certainty. Don't be defined by what you didn't know or didn't do. You are deciding your life right now."

    Just "wow" is all I can say about book #2 from the awesome Jennifer Powter! I saw myself in every chapter and on every page in ways I hadn't during my previous work with Jen and in her first book. Thanks to Jen's refreshingly true and insightful approach, I now know why I didn't complete my weight loss journey the first time around. This book will support me finish that journey by helping me understand the deep-down part of reaching a healthy weight. Thanks to Jen, I'm ready do the work and I have the resources to do it with!

Amazing stories.I've given away a case of these books, and every single person receiving it said it was exactly what they required to tutorial them in making major decisions toward a better life. (Many of the twenty-somethings I gave the book to said they HATE to read... which doesn't apply when given the secrets to solving the overwhelming anxiety that comes to those stuck in their twenty's or the caregivers of those who are trapped there).

Most have been told they are unique and they can do anything they want.     Amazing. I want I could force everyone I personally know (in their twenties or even early thirties) to read this. Obtain it, read it. Just do a 28 year old this book would have been even more helpful to me 5+ years ago, but alas, such is life. And perhaps as someone a bit older this book is helpful to me in other ways, as I can recognize a lot of things in hindsight. So yes, I think that anyone 17-32 can benefit from this to some degree or another. This book has provided a lot of perspective for me on some of the mistakes I probably could have avoided with love + work, but it's also helped to pin point those mistakes, learn from them, and use it as fuel to move forward in the best method possible. This isn't some spiritual "chicken soup for the soul" book - in fact Meg pushes beautiful hard for young people to AVOID those sentiments and not obtain caught up in the emotional traps that a lot of young adults these days are vulnerable to (from TV, movies, their friends, own parents, etc.)She wants twentysomethings to ask themselves the true tough questions about relationships, jobs, money, education: and then respond them honestly. It's actually all really practical, well thought out tip from a highly skilled therapist/professional in the field. You don't have to relate or even agree with EVERY thing she says, but nonetheless Meg provides perspective that everyone can identify with on some level. The writing is great, too; she does not talk down, come off as condescending, or dismiss anyones concerns: she really gets on the same level as young adults who are ank you for this book, Meg.

    If you're asking yourself questions like "Why am I unsatisfied with an endless stream of hook ups?" or "why is my unemployed life so unsatisfying?" then this book might be amazing for you. Most of her tip work similar tip is basically "Get a professional job", most of her love tip is "don't settle" (my favorite - don't move in with a romantic partner you don't plan on marrying - didn't realize this was a thing?), and most of her brain tip is basically rehashed huge 5 theories, the somewhat debunked 10,000 hour rule, and that confidence does not come from the inside but the outside. Of course I am not a Ph.D psychiatrist, however it seems to me that confidence requires both inside work & outside validation.I sought this book out to support me with what you could call a quarter-life crisis. As a 25 year old with a well paying job in the tech sector, the tip "just obtain a job" doesn't really apply to me anymore. My concern isn't what job to work, it's the fact that I'll be doing this @#$% for 40+ years. Her clients bring this concern up, but she's beautiful dismissive about any true solution to it - basically saying "just begin somewhere, worry about it later". One of her clients considered it a victory to go from her 9-5 to going home to watching TV/doing nothing for her free time. This is exactly what I am striving to avoid. In a related vein, her "advice" on dating & self development was low-tier and not really the content for most concerns of me or those "twentysomethings" in my mate group. We've all heard "don't compare yourself to social media" 1,000 times. If this is what it takes to be a best seller, then my confidence in the self-help genre is destroyed. I was so frustrated with this book and how unrelateable it is to me that I actually am submitting this review (Literally my first review of any product on amazon).I give it 2 stars instead of 1 because there was SOME interesting/helpful info - for instance the chapter on fertility was nice to know about. The chapter on Identity Capital was fresh info to p this book and buy something more useful. I'd recommend Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Siddhartha by Hesse, or Man's Find For Meaning by Frankl.

    I have read this book two times now and just had to tell you it is in my opinion the best book I’ve ever read on sleep. I have read so a lot of books on sleep in the past 10 years as I have suffered with chronic insomnia. This book took away my fear that I was not sleeping, and created it clear I was sleeping, just not a amazing sleeper. I’ve seen a sleep doctor who has worked very well with getting my circadian rhythm back on track. But this book in some method gave me comfort, and has helped me to obtain more sleep and rest. The author’s honesty and humor in the book is very appreciated. I read the book the second time to remind me of what is going on with my sleep when I obtain back into thinking I’m not sleeping. I have my own copy, but just purchased another copy for someone else as a gift. This book was life changing. It got me to think about my sleep problem in fresh ways. Not just another sleep book! This one is different, and better than all others I’ve read, and I’ve read a lot of them! Thank you for a unbelievable book, and your amazing writing skills in presenting the info to the reader.

    Wow!! I would one hundred percent recommend this to anybody in their 20s, or anybody who has children in their 20s, or anybody who will be in the 20s one day. All of you – read this book. Immediately – not to sound bossy… (even though I definitely am). It really opened my eyes, and also created me feel all warm and fuzzy and humble to know that all the problems I’ve been having (as a babe in my 20s) are experienced by others too!! Other crazy 20-something folks who, like me, feel a small confused by this messy, wonderful, stressful, and overwhelming thing called life. The author, Meg Jay does an awesome job of making it all seem perfectly normal! So here I go Meg Jay, off to be intentional, obtain to work, pick my family, create my own certainty, and decide my life right now. And if you like this review follow me on Ig @rd for more :)

    Jen is back! A highly respected weight loss coach has delved into the uny, but oh so necessary, inner work of weight loss and weight mastery. Although I took notes and am journaling through the hints given, I had to go back to create sure I didn't miss a thing. Jen has a strong, private voice throughout that connected with me on a deep level. She has been there! She gets me! I could hear her speaking to me; the chronic dieter, the self-sabotage queen of weight loss, the voice in my head that asks "how could I have gained back all that weight AGAIN?". She pulls no punches as she tutorials the reader through the journey of self-discovery by providing the same steps she took to obtain there. A self-help book, for sure, but one that will be a dog-eared ver in my library. Thanks Jen!

    The Defining Decade is a MUST READ for all twenty-somethings!I originally wasn't too excited to read this book because I thought it wouldn't be as applicable to me (25/good job/serious relationship), but I was very wrong! This book was, at times, challenging to read because it confronts the insecurities in the back of your head (even ones you didn't realize you had/ were avoiding thinking about). I could definitely picture a handful of twenty-somethings not finishing this book because of it's candor and it's investigation of the "I'll do it later" method. I would encourage them to push past those sections and not to go in with assumptions of what she is going to say (which is very hard). A lot of times her point of view or unbiased nature surprised me, and her thought process on a few subjects caused me to question my own. (A lot of times I wondered what she personally thinks since she mostly shares what she has seen, statistics, and research).It's broken up into three sections: work, love, and body & brain - each targeting stereotypes and famous ideas among my peers. Almost every client story she told reminded me of myself or someone I knew. I really liked how when the author identified a potentially poor habit or problem, she gave encouragement/ideas on how to obtain back on track. It is NOT just telling you what already you know (i.e. you shouldn't be a waitress for 10 years) - it gives tangible examples, encouragement, and reminds you of the importance of 1 little step at a time. I liked how she consistently reminds her audience that you don't have to know exactly what you wish to do with your life, but still stresses the necessary of movement.If you are looking for a book to actually obtain you thinking and not have every page talking about how amazing you are, then read this. She brings up subjects that older generations nag twenty-somethings on, but in a completely various method (using a non-judgmental tone, her own true life struggles, statistics, and remembering each person is unique). I want I could give more than 5 stars!

    The Deifining Decade gave me confirming, and motivating insight on my twentysomething years, and how I should be getting the most out of them. In an intentional, forward thinking, kind of way. Students, millennials, and twentysomethings are the target audience. However I believe parents, teachers, and professors alike should all read Dr. Meg’s book, and it should definitely be needed reading for anyone giving tip to a e book is not for your grandparents. I would highly recommend this book and couple others to college students, such as; Peaks and Valleys by Spencer Jonhson, M.D. and The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth: Live Them and Reach Their Full Potential by John r the twentysomethings out there who are just trying to figure it out, I suggest stopping to breathe. Lay off the coffee… a little. Practice meditation and taking deep breaths in and out of the nose. Take moments to just be still, silent, and breathe. Buy the book, buy a highlighter, and go!

    I found this book very helpful. I think anyone in their twenties who don't know what they should do with their life should read this book.Dr. Jay does not say that young people in their twenties who don't have a steady job are doing it wrong, or that thinking about a career or love later in life is a poor thing. She merely states (accurately) that all our actions have consequences and if you wish a career and kids in your thirties that you should begin thinking and planning those things in your twenties. She says that your years post-graduation matter and that the executives and experienced specialists in the workplace got there by having years of work behind them. You don't turn thirty and become an experienced professional by magic, it takes e also offers solid concrete wisdom on dating, marriage, finding a job, health, hobbies, and the rest. I found her approach not off-putting but motivating. Overall a very useful book.

    I have suffered from insomnia and staying awake for up to two hours frequently during each night's sleep for the past five years. That contains going into another room and reading for a while to rid myself of the anxiety I've experienced from not being able to go back to sleep. I've also read in the past Say Amazing Night to Insomina by Harvard Doctor Gregg Jacobs, The Sleep Revolution by Huffington as well as numerous articles in magizenes, and on the Internet. All of them gave helpful advice, but did not help me from still eliminating the getting up and having to go in another room to read in order to obtain to a point to be able to go back to sleep....After reading The Sleep Solution which changed my outlook on Insomina and my attitudes toward my Insomina problem, I am now able to lay in bed and go back to sleep in a reasonable length of time when I wake up in the middle of the night without having to obtain up and go into another room and read first. ......I really didn't need a fresh bag of tricks to go back to sleep, just a better understanding of the issue and applying the principles outlined in the two chapters on Insomina. I recommend this book whole hardly based on my experience since reading and applying the info in the contents of the book.......By the method I've used the Kindle ver of the book.

    I developed severe insomnia that, after several months, was threatening to become chronic. I took alprazolam, then trazodone, then temazepam. As my medicine cabinet slowly became a collection of barely-pronounceable sedatives, I saw no true solution ahead. I augmented the with sleep hygiene, mindfulness meditation, and even a few ‘natural’ aids like melatonin, Chamomile, kava, etc. I still suffered from sleep anxiety. I still dreaded bedtime, knowing that, if I didn’t pop some , I would wake up after an hour or two and be up most of the night. My next step was to schedule an appointment with a sleep spet, but I decided to read this book first.I’m cautiously skeptical of glowing reviews, and I certainly don’t write them very often. But I’m not exaggerating when I say that my sleep pattern (or lack of one) changed immediately after finishing this book. I felt my anxiety evaporating just halfway through it. The myriad internet articles, listicles, blogs, tip columns, and pseudoscience garbage that I’d driven myself crazy with instantly became irrelevant. Much of this book is devoted to a primary understanding of the science of sleep in an approachable, often very funny way. As the mystery of my sleep issue vanished, so went my fear. Through easy sleep restriction with a rock-solid earlier wake-up time, I finally solved my bout of insomnia, going from 1-4 hours of sleep per night to a minimum of 7. CBT was the answer, not that almost rhyme with ‘marzipan’. Mmm… is book may not be the magic potion for everyone, but I think it’s absolutely essential reading… even if you’re satisfied with your sleep.

    For years my sleep has been "broken." I turned to this book for some answers. Dr. Winter is a amazing writer and his book is engaging and simple to read.He first helps you understand sleep, then moves on in the second part of the book to discuss different specifics (sleep maladies, , etc.). A lot of will wish to skip to a chapter dealing with their issue(s), but as Dr. Winter explains, it is best to understand sleep in order to fix it.His frequent comparison of sleeping to eating was helpful. In particular, his ogy about not being hungry at a certain time so deciding to go to a restaurant earlier to obtain more meal hit me like a load of bricks. This is exactly what I have done so often and, as he explains, it is detrimental. Go to bed *when you are sleepy* and then set a consistent wake time. If you stick to that wake time, your body will tell you when it's tired and you will start down the street toward a amazing night's sleep. I used to be so stressed about getting to bed on time. Now I don't sweat it. I just go to bed when I'm tired, which is getting to be beautiful predictable. Such a relief. Sleep should not cause ere are, of course, a lot of hints and tricks in the book. Some of these you have probably seen on the internet, but others you haven't. The most necessary thing, however, is that his hints come alongside the irreplaceable education about sleep. Without that education, hints alone will likely not solve most people's problem, because what we really need to do is understand our sleep.I am already a better sleeper after a couple weeks with this book. Highly recommended.

    At first, it was difficult to take the author seriously because he uses humor for a serious subject. But, the author makes very valid points and the info has indeed helped me sleep better -- and, I feel better about not getting perfect, deep sleep. I've chop method back on sleeping aids and I've been recommending the book to my friends. Thank you for writing this book.

    The Defining Decade is a MUST READ for all twenty-somethings!I originally wasn't too excited to read this book because I thought it wouldn't be as applicable to me (25/good job/serious relationship), but I was very wrong! This book was, at times, challenging to read because it confronts the insecurities in the back of your head (even ones you didn't realize you had/ were avoiding thinking about). I could definitely picture a handful of twenty-somethings not finishing this book because of it's candor and it's investigation of the "I'll do it later" method. I would encourage them to push past those sections and not to go in with assumptions of what she is going to say (which is very hard). A lot of times her point of view or unbiased nature surprised me, and her thought process on a few subjects caused me to question my own. (A lot of times I wondered what she personally thinks since she mostly shares what she has seen, statistics, and research).It's broken up into three sections: work, love, and body & brain - each targeting stereotypes and famous ideas among my peers. Almost every client story she told reminded me of myself or someone I knew. I really liked how when the author identified a potentially poor habit or problem, she gave encouragement/ideas on how to obtain back on track. It is NOT just telling you what already you know (i.e. you shouldn't be a waitress for 10 years) - it gives tangible examples, encouragement, and reminds you of the importance of 1 little step at a time. I liked how she consistently reminds her audience that you don't have to know exactly what you wish to do with your life, but still stresses the necessary of movement.If you are looking for a book to actually obtain you thinking and not have every page talking about how amazing you are, then read this. She brings up subjects that older generations nag twenty-somethings on, but in a completely various method (using a non-judgmental tone, her own true life struggles, statistics, and remembering each person is unique). I want I could give more than 5 stars!

Though I search the topic fascinating, now I am somewhat bored by the subject. Every article and book paints a less than rosy picture of this young generation. They are called weak, impatient, entitled, sensitive, and doomed to inherit a terribly uncertain these descriptions and predictions may be accurate proven through qualitative, quantitative, and anecdotal studies, however the leave us with a issue with no is is where the Defining Decade by Dr. Meg Jay comes in. This is easily the best book I have read all year. Dr. Meg Jay is a clinical psychologist that has studied and helped numerous twentysomethings over the past decade. This book shares the common issues all twentysomethings go through today, how each person looked at the problems, and how each person re-evaluated their is book is split into three sections: work, love, and brain and is a common issue for twentysomethings. Most have been told they are unique and they can do anything they want. Yet when they reach college they are overwhelmed with the responsibility of choosing a major and consequently they are incapable of choosing a vocation. Most would rather wander until someone comes by (after they turn thirty) and leads them to a promising , like work, is another commitment that scares twentysomethings. They do not wish to commit too young or wait until they are too old. Our culture glorifies the single life of twentysomethings, but it never shares the struggles. College is made with a powerful curriculum to prepare you for the working world, however there are no approved methods of finding a soul ough twentysomethings are finished with the ravages of puberty, their brains and bodies are still developing. The globe perceived by a twentysomething is much various than someone in their thirties or forties. Twentysomethings do not feel like adults so they avoid the grown up world, but in order to grow up they need to jump into adult world.“Thirty is the fresh twenty” is the worst saying ever. Your twenties are the most valuable decade of your life, but you have to be intentional about it. “You twenties matter.”Be intentional.And read this amazing book.

There's enough cited research throughout it to create it feel like you're not just listening to some psychologist's anecdotes (some other reviewers stated this and I disagree with them). Reason I give it 4 out of 5 is because I don't think all of the material is relevant to all 20 somethings. These stories come from 20 somethings who are in therapy - that already excludes the lower class and a lot of cultures from this demographic (as in not good people can't afford therapy and in some cultures there's a large stigma versus seeking this kind of help). That being said I do think there are bits and pieces everyone can search useful here. The book is divided in to three sections:Work - Lots of stories about 20 somethings who are trying to "find themselves" and who are holding out for inspiration for their life's destiny. These children clearly did not have student debt or family obligations to obtain going with their lives. I can think of a few of my own mates who could have benefited from reading this section right out of college. It definitely makes sense why these children felt this way, but anyone who has had to pave their own method will roll their eyes through a lot of this. I did have fun the part about "weak ties" - This section is amazing for everyone. It really emphasized being intentional in your relationships. A lot of the anecdotes here were about 20 somethings choosing the path of least resistance (staying in relationships due to convenience). This section is a call to action for all of us to truly examine what we wish from a relationship/life partner/family and if our current relationships reflect e brain and the body - Also amazing for everyone. This section was a call to action to take advantage of your growing brain while you can, and to be conscious of your biological clock. I always kind of rolled my eyes at other women who have a plan to "have a baby by 35" or whenever, because to me it wasn't about what age I was, it was about what scene in life I was in (career, marriage, house, THEN baby). This was a wake up call to me, not to rush into having a baby, but to investigate my fertility and examine my life knowing that if I wait until I'm 35 to begin the conversation, it might be too late.Overall, I am glad I read the book. It created me feel amazing about the items I was already doing (I'm 26) and created me aware of a few other things I should consider in work/relationships/my body. If you know someone who is about to graduate and has no idea what they'll be getting into when they move back in with their parents, obtain them this book.

    I found this book very helpful. I think anyone in their twenties who don't know what they should do with their life should read this book.Dr. Jay does not say that young people in their twenties who don't have a steady job are doing it wrong, or that thinking about a career or love later in life is a poor thing. She merely states (accurately) that all our actions have consequences and if you wish a career and kids in your thirties that you should begin thinking and planning those things in your twenties. She says that your years post-graduation matter and that the executives and experienced specialists in the workplace got there by having years of work behind them. You don't turn thirty and become an experienced professional by magic, it takes e also offers solid concrete wisdom on dating, marriage, finding a job, health, hobbies, and the rest. I found her approach not off-putting but motivating. Overall a very useful book.

    I read Dr. Meg Jay's NY Times piece on co-habituation (...) which lead me to ordering her book. I received it yesterday and read it in one sitting. So, I think it's beautiful a twenty something, I would recommend this book to my mates and even those still in high school. Dr. Jay teaches lessons about how to ideally approach one's twenties and why it really matters. She interweaves research, stories, and counseling sessions with her patients to create a thought provoking but simple book to read. In a lot of of those patients, I saw my mates or myself. There was the twenty something coffee barista still waiting for the right opportunity to come by. There was the attractive and successful, girl chronically hooking up and never dating because she's still plagued with teenager, self-image problems. There was the bicycle guy wanting to be original and afraid of settling down. What they all have in common is this intense desire to know, "Am I going to create it? And what the hell should I be doing in my twenties? School was so easy, but life is so hard."This book isn't a step by step guide. It won't go into how to systematically meet guys/girls, obtain over depression, or how to do well on an interview. There are plenty of books on getting into the details. Instead, this is a thought provoking book aimed versus the famous twenty something zeitgeist today that, "we can do anything", "there's always time", and "I have until 30 to obtain my life together." Not to mention the million other stories we tell ourselves like, "I'm never going to obtain amazing at this", "It's better to wait rather than choose", or "Everyone on Fb is doing better than me." In a sense, this book is like "Rich Dad, Not good Dad" to private finance. They are paradigm shifting books that sweep away the false assumptions and beliefs we acquired from our childhood and culture and replace them with solid, true principles on how reality works. This book isn't going to do the massive lifting for you, only you can do that. This book is the starting point to start living one's twenties with drive, clarity, and e book itself is divided into three sections: Work, Love, and The Brain and the talks about increasing your identity capital, the value of "weak ties", that you know what you wish even though you think you don't, the unhelpful prevalence of Fb comparisons, and seeing a career as the first step in a unique, customized life vs settling goes into the importance of taking dating seriously in your 20s, compatibility with possible in-laws, how to create sure "living together" isn't harmful, and choosing the right e Brain and Body is sort of a misc. collection of pieces centered on how your brain, body, and mind e Brain and Body section also covered a lot of neuroscience research I wasn't aware of. For example, your brain undergoes a radical period of reconfiguration in your 20s which means now is the best opportunity for learning skills. Or, the frontal cortex that controls a lot of our mature responses such as regulating emotions is still developing for most people in their 20s. Besides the physical brain, Dr. Jay also talks about the mind such as learning how to calm yourself down, how to develop confidence (rather than believing it's fixed), and that you can radically alter how you feel by changing parts of your also has a very frank chapter on fertility and that ladies don't have as much time as they think to have children. The final chapter before the epilogue talks about mapping your years to see how limited your time truly is. It seems common for a lot of young people to talk about getting their career in order or going to graduate school eventually, getting married, and having children but not all at the same time. Except, when you're 25 or 27 saying this, you're quickly running out of 's hard to convey in a review how amazing the book is. This is the book I want I could have written in ten years. Not just because of the advice, but because of the patient interviews. I found myself agreeing and sharing the same POV as the patient a lot of times but through the counseling session, it was almost like I was sitting there and seeing my own assumptions fall apart and seeing the truth for what it really is. This book doesn't knock you over the head with what Dr. Jay thinks is right but begins from where you already are and lets you see for yourself the issues in your logic. Just as any amazing psychologist is isn't your run of the mill tip book. There's a lot of famous myths and assumptions that this book dispels with cold, hard truth. I'm a self-help addict, and there was plenty of fresh info I never heard or thought of e underlying notice in all the stories and chapters is begin living your life now. Take responsibility. Don't believe the lies that your twenties don't matter or that confidence is only innate. For most people, the late night parties, pointless jobs, and random hookups won't be what build your identity, what you care about or remember in the future. If anything, as Billy in the book says, you will probably feel betrayed that you wasted the best years of your life doing all the meaningless things that culture and others mislead you to believe most important. So, begin preparing now because the investments (or lack thereof) that you do in your twenties will have the greatest impact in your career, marriage, and overall happiness. As she ends the book, "The future isn't written in the stars. There are no guarantees. So claim your adulthood. Be intentional. Obtain to work. Pick your family. Do the math. Create your own certainty. Don't be defined by what you didn't know or didn't do. You are deciding your life right now."

    If you have insomnia or have clients with it, this book is a waste of time. This "sleep doctor" as he calls himself, minimizes it, says accept it and test cozy pajamas and medications! He says there are worse things to have and has a list of health problems. To me, lacking sleep can cause health problems! He is very boastful about being a doctor and athlete. Who cares; he tries to be funny with some sarcasm which is just a waste of my reading time. He takes forever getting to the point, too busy being boastful. Repeats himself with useless information. He says obtain a sleep study and has diagrams in there about REM, who cares. I got nothing out of it. Since I can't obtain my cash back, not wish to pass it on, I place in my recycling bin for the dump. I bet he never suffered from insomnia!
