How To Choose The Right Picture Frame (How to Frame Book 5) []  2020-3-30 20:39

This book was amazing reading. I like how the writer covered framing. This book helped me to consider framing techniques that go deeper than just getting a frame. Framing should express the artist and the art in a special method that allowed both the art and the frame to become journey as a hobby photographer lead me to consider matting where I was faced with really making my photographs come alive. Now with this book on framing, I also must consider the whole piece as the art, not just the photograph. An analogy would be whether you would dress a baby in ugly clothes or attractive clothes. If you dressed the baby in attractive clothes it would enhance her, not take away from her beauty.

How To Choose The Right Picture Frame (How to Frame Book 5) []  2020-3-30 20:39

If I could have given 0 stars I would have. The 7 secrets were generalized cliches that didn't explain anything in any detail or in depth. He gave such tip as "The sixth secret is learn how to choose and use the right equipment." or "the 7th secret is to hold learning about frame designs and picture framing." What?? These would be fine if they were headings that lead to some follow up info about these topics. Instead, he wastes the few paragraphs he has written on utter nonsense like, " With picture framing it is wise to hold your tools sharp and well maintained if you want to create amazing frames." The entire book is filled with this crap. Books like these aren't books, they are shameless promotional advertising and scam material

Dirk Quigby's Guide to the Afterlife: All You Need to Know to Choose the Right Heaven []  2020-6-29 19:20

Prepare to be offended by at least one chapter, but whenever this book doesn't have you scowling at it, you'll be grinning at its sarcastic humor and nodding at its tidbits of ing this book, I laughed out loud several times. For me, that's significant, as I usually just smile when I encounter something amusing in a book. I certainly enjoyed it, but a few imperfections (and a small more than I thought was necessary) created it hard for me to think of this as a five-star reading n't pick up this book expecting it to be nothing but reviews of different theologies' expectations of the afterlife. There is an overarching plot that takes readers on a cynical tour of Dirk Quigby's strange experiences. I liked this. The heavenly reviews were certainly not impartial, and reading them was much easier knowing the personality of the hero writing them. About halfway through the book, I noticed that every religion was portrayed as a peculiar combination of strange (and often contradictory) concepts which could only be believed and followed by the gullible, stupid, or crazy people of the world. This would have bothered me if not for the fact that Dirk seems to think that method about nearly everything he encounters.I must admit that I enjoyed the reviews more than the story. Those on the Protestant and Islamic afterlives struck me as particularly entertaining. Not a single one was boring, and each offered clear info with vivid ng claims that each afterlife review (and each accompanying religious explanation) was based on fact. However, having found some minor inaccuracies in the review of my own religion's afterlife, I have to wonder if any of the others were slightly off as well. As a result, I do not recommend this book as a reference tutorial to globe religions, which it doesn't even pretend to be e cynicism is masterfully written. The quotes at the beginning of each chapter were brilliant. And the conclusion, though somewhat inconclusive, offered some philosophical meal for thought on the concepts of religion and theology in general. I can forgive the imperfections and say that this was indeed an enjoyable read.

Dirk Quigby's Guide to the Afterlife: All You Need to Know to Choose the Right Heaven []  2020-6-29 19:20

Dirk Quigby's Tutorial to the Afterlife by E. E. King is both hard and simple to describe. Both Ray Bradbury and Margaret Cho call it "hilarious," so I'll go with that too. Quigby is an ad man who makes a with the devil--nothing fresh there. This however is to visit every religion's heaven to drum up some business because, as Lucifer puts it, hell is too crowded. Dirk gets a sexy guardian angel with an electric personality, Angelica, and he is forever being whisked away to this or that afterlife through air conditioners, faucets, and other conduits.E. E. King does a nice job of explaining the different heavens, what to expect from the food, drink, accommodations, music, and so on, and how to obtain there. She give each the respect it is due, and uses italics for Dirk's interior commentary (although sometimes I have to admit to being puzzled about whether the author is serious or kidding about some points of theology, which is more a comment of the religions than the exposition). And a lot of the writing is quite funny, and the characters are fleshed out enough to be engaging without taking over the book. In the end, all heaven breaks loose, but thankfully people have their Quigby's.And I learned some amazing Jeopardy! trivia too. Who was the only American woman to found a globe religion? What two religions were founded in 1844?(Answers: Mary Baker Eddy. And Baha'i and Seventh Day Adventists.)Ed Battistella--on Literary Ashland

Using a tutorial such as Michelin or Zagat to search a amazing restaurant or hotel is one thing, and deciding where to spend eternity is another. Fortunately, we now have “Dirk Quigby’s Tutorial to the Afterlife: All You Need to Know to Choose the Right Heaven” to aid in the process. Our man Dirk is an advertising man, and it seems Hell is too crowded because, well, just because. Lucifer hires Quigby to do an ad campaign with the goal to attract more souls to heaven, thus reducing the population in Hell. Voila, the “Guide to the Afterlife” is born.Quigby does not visit all the possible heavens, but he describes and rates nine habitats of the hereafter in the shopping center of heavens. He contains a primary description of beliefs of the beliefs and entry requirements, perks, food, drink, music, accommodations, and entry requirements, from which he gives an overall rating for each ter reading this Guide, you may prefer Hell.

Goes to present that with the hundreds of possible destinations one might actually obtain a printed ver of this and carry it at all times. As an atheist myself, well, I'll just pop out of existence.Worth the time and money. Really amazing book. Thanks E. E. King

It's very fun, whimsical and generally educational in terms of various religions. Please do read this with an begin mind. Dirk Quigby's Guide to the Afterlife: All You Need to Know to Choose the Right Heaven []  2020-6-29 19:20

This is a novel without a plot—or possibly a novel with a plot that stops long before it gets to the end. It’s built on an interesting premise. Dirk Quigby is an advertising copy writer hired by the devil to write a travel tutorial to the afterlife so that humans will become interested in reaching heaven again and hell will be less overpopulated. The first couple of these tutorials (ancient Egypt and Greece) balance encyclopedia-like info with snarky observations by Quigby and are quite humorous, but as the sections on each religion obtain longer and the snark becomes a bit mean-spirited (especially with the Catholics) they cease to be enough to carry the novel. Thus we fall back on the almost plot—Quigby’s issues with his day job, and his strange girlfriend with the huge surprise. The issue is—and I admit I’m a heavily plot driven reader—the plot doesn’t go anywhere. And ultimately, there doesn’t seem to be a purpose to the Tutorial to the Afterlife. Quigby is supposed to go on a talk show. The globe has a possibility to learn of the tutorial and answer to it. Presumably a lot of will be unhappy with his observations. Yet the story ends before showing us any of these results which in this reader’s opinion was the point of the whole novel. So Ms. King, you have a amazing idea here, but I suspect that I am not the only reader who wishes you would revise the book and add a few chapters that address the impact of the tutorial and leads Quigby to a satisfying ending. That would greatly enhance my overall enjoyment of your story.

Dirk Quigby's Guide to the Afterlife: All You Need to Know to Choose the Right Heaven []  2020-6-29 19:20

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, with its abundant references to song lyrics and famous culture, both cited and uncited, with a lot of Easter eggs to be discovered. I think being immersed within this author’s stream of consciousness would be hugely e content is broadly humorous, although it tackles a very serious issue. I am usually able to ignore the fact most religions declare themselves the only truth, with dire consequences for all others. It is appalling how a lot of “heavens” let for the righteous to directly view the ongoing suffering of those who weren’t. Kind of a Romanesque dinner theatre for the rest of time. With humor, it is easier to digest without a competing emotional reaction (anger, disgust, etc..)I do think the book ended abruptly, I could have gone on. But then entropy was having its method with Dirk’s angelic relationship anyway, so it wasn’t long before something climactic happened. I’m just glad she didn’t slay the cat in a fit of pique! Destroying the globe is definitely a better choice.

A fair survey of a wide range of religions and what they believe, disguised as a fantasy-farce about some not good schmuck tasked by Satan with compiling a comparative review, in regular language. The storyline is interesting and fun, and the serious religious conten is, presented in a lighthearted but entirely fair way, I found it quite fascinating.

This was a very useful book. It teaches you all the current technologies being used in stem cell treatments (and similar regenerative meds) from a scientific perspective, taking a critical and skeptical approach while acknowledging this items is really working for people. We just don't yet know why. I'm investigating using a very expensive stem cell therapy in Thailand and after reading this book I am so much more informed about what to ask the doctors here at the clinic. After reading the book I am also now aware of platelet-rich plasma therapy and will discover e questions I'm going to ask my Dr are:1. Do you use PRP or Prolotherapy to increase the effectiveness, and if not why not?2. Are the stem cells from umbilical cord blood or umbilical cord tissue? Exactly what is their source?3. Is the quality of every batch tested? Or are random tests conducted?4. What's the recent literature say about umbilical cord treatments?5. What kind of training has the doctor undergone in regenerative medicine?6. How do I choose the number of cells?

I can’t thank Dr. Marchetti enough for writing this book! The clear, concise manner in which he writes assists a novice, like me, to obtain an overall grasp when navigating the stem cell world. As a layperson, I appreciated the fact that when reading off an electronic device, I could on an underlined reference, document, or study that the doctor was referring to, and see it immediately. i believe that this book is one in which the medical community would regard with high integrity while gaining knowledge which would greatly benefit their patients. A Buyer’s Tutorial to Stem Cell Therapies should be mandatory reading for both laypeople and the medical community when it comes to stem cells.

Also, you will feel more empowered and confident when discussing with your doctor about the procedure. I highly recommend it if you or you family are thinking about Lasik.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading One Eye or Two. This book makes an perfect primer for someone(like myself) considering LASIK surgery. The book provides interesting history and case studies but perhaps the most useful aspect is that it helps dispel a lot of rumors and myths around the procedure. If you read this book as an adjunct to your conversations with your doctor, I believe you will have a amazing understanding of LASIK.

A Buyer's Guide to Stem Cell Therapies: Safely Choose the Right Regenerative Treatment for You []  2020-2-6 21:30

The book is well written, well organized and presented in a straight forward fashion. I'm a techie so I was looking for a small more specifics on the scientific side and to see if there were age similar specifics for older patients but was left wanting more so that's why I gave it four stars. It would probably be five stars for someone who was reading about stem cell therapy for the first time. I think the book is perfect as far as it goes. The book includes primary reference material and links to other sites; for the newbie to stem cell therapy I would consider it an perfect read.

My husband and I had never considered living in an RV, not full-time, not part-time, not even for a single day. But then the globe as we knew it turned completely on its head and we got hit by a pandemic. Things that we used to take for granted, like getting on a plane to go visit the children and grandkids, or to visit our parents and siblings all of whom live in various states, is not something we feel safe or comfortable doing anymore. The solution? Getting an RV!Since this is a topic we knew absolutely nothing about, we decided to read Fred Donovan’s book together. In the beginning, we got scared. We didn’t wish to read about the chance of having our RV break down, or not finding a put to park it overnight. But then we learned about all the various styles and ranges available, the chance of arranging it and decorating it to our taste to making it a small home and the idea of meeting fresh people in campgrounds along the method to our different destinations and we are sold. We have even gone so far as to create an appointment with a local dealer (as suggested by the author) to test out several possible options. It has changed our outlook in a significant method and pointed out an interesting option for us, particularly for these interesting times we are living…

First off, this was a read meant to give my aging parents an idea of what they can do when retirement comes. They have been talking about traveling since I was a child. The first few pages talk about the pros and cons of RV life, which is amazing because they have no clue of what they're about to obtain into. It also spends time talking about how to choose an RV, the home they will live in for, well who knows how long. It talks about the classes of trailers, buying vs renting, amenity considerations, the top RV's on the market, how to decorate that it, and even how to set it up for the first time. I was personally more concerned with the tips, tricks and maintenance part, which I will highlight for my parents to create sure they read and absorb. There is even a short small troubleshooting section!! The essentials section was kind of a no brainer, I mean it essentially is your house so you should have all the house things in it. There were also amazing hints about children (which won’t be joining my parents), pets, dealing with your finances, and how to take care of yourself on the street as well how to create a small while you are out. All in all, it gave some amazing knowledge to pass on to my folks.

I'm currently a part-time caregiver for a 73-year old man who loves to travel, if not by cruise ship then to Vegas... and casinos. He wants to obtain a fresh car as he sold his vehicle back to the dealership. He receives his social security monthly and also doesn't like to stay in one put for long and likes to move around, so I got this book and think that he might consider living full-time in an RV-- because he certainly doesn't search a senior home appealing-- so he can move around whenever he wants to. This book has a lot of info about an RV life for the elderly and doesn't seem to have left anything out. The man I'm a part-time caregiver for has mates and family that can support him learn his method around an RV, especially maintenance since he would be by himself. This is a amazing book for seniors who wish to live on the road. Overall, it's well-written for any fresh RV owner, senior or not, who wants to live full-time or even part-time in an RV.

I’ve been halfway considering going on an adventure in an RV if I’ll ever be able to afford it. I’m not a senior citizen but found it very helpful. Fred Donovan knows how to point out the positives and negatives and does not leave anything out. This addresses RV living in a very holistic way.

I’ve been halfway considering going on an adventure in an RV if I’ll ever be able to afford it. I’m not a senior citizen but found it very helpful. Fred Donovan knows how to point out the positives and negatives and does not leave anything out. This addresses RV living in a very holistic way.

I don't have an RV. I have no intention of buying one. I don't even live in the United States (I live in Fresh Zealand). But I found the book interesting. All the facts for retirees seemed to be covered.I'd love to read a book covering the RV street adventures of the writer. This current book was amazing for tip on buying and living with RVs but as the author is such a amazing writer I figure a heartfelt story about his own living on the street would be amazing too. Maybe he has written one, I will test to check it out.

The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right [Book]  2018-5-4 18:0

As my career progressed, checklists increasingly became a key part of organizing and getting things done. Gawande carries this a step farther, reviewing a short history of business and organizational uses of checklists, and why their use in all aspects of medical care needs to be greatly expanded for both efficiencies and our safety. He carefully documents medical instances in which they have been used successfully. He also categorizes various kinds of checklists to address different needs. But really, anyone would benefit from reading this book. Thanks to Gawande's engaging style, all of his books are fast page-turners and enjoyable reads.

How to Be Right: The Art of Being Persuasively Correct []  2020-1-31 1:44

Gutfeld is the clown prince of the Right and very much needed. He turns out tremendously thoughtful political dialogue with a hilarious bent than only Gutfeld can bring to it. We need more people like this to explain politics without droning people into a coma. I've enjoyed all of his books and this one is as amazing or better than any others.

How to Create a New Identity & Disappear! The Right Way []  2020-1-24 22:5

I have no rational excuse for reading this book. I haven't committed any crimes, I don't owe a penny to anyone, and the few people who wish me dead are too lazy to do anything about ill, you never know and it IS funny. English is obviously not the author's first language and the writing style is unusual, to say the least. It changes from formal (stilted, really) to slangy and back again so quick I almost got whiplash a few times.I don't know enough to say how well any of his suggestions would work, but I certainly wouldn't test any of them unless I thought I was going to be arrested for felony murder and even then I might prefer to throw myself on the mercy of the court. Prisons in my state are so over-crowded, you have to chain yourself to the jail cell or they'll create you leave. Why bother to run? And in all fairness to the author, he DOES say that this is not a decision to be taken veral reviewers have criticized the book on the grounds that the info given is too primary to be of any worth. But (as the bounty-hunter pointed out) you can't underestimate the ignorance and stupidity of most criminals. You also can't underestimate their laziness, so the chances of one of them reading a book (even a short one) aren't great. Plus they ALWAYS hold committing crimes, usually the same one (comfort location issues, I suppose.) Occasionally an smart person turns to crime and (if detected) goes on the lam. The intelligent is still on the cops, especially in these days of computers and cards. But, if you search it more convincing than I do, be my guest. Just don't call me for bail money!
