    Small-Scale Haymaking: How to Get Started (Country Work) []  2020-1-25 2:45

    The author did a amazing job of describing a little haying operation done on a shoestring budget. He mentions early on that it is not economical to hay on a little scale with brand new, off the showroom, huge iron. So he focuses on used equipment. Talks alot about each piece of equipment and how and when they are used in the locations of field preparation, planting and harvesting. As it should be, the harvesting section was the most detailed stressing the quality (nutrient value) of the hay and the proper drying techniques. Proper maintenance and safety were also addressed. Lots of pictures.Were this book could have been better: It should have talked more about the relative strenghts and weaknesses of the different types of forage and their use in various parts of the country. I would pair this book with Gene Logsdon's "All Flesh is Grass" for more on this. I also want Mr. Yost had done some research into the alternatives to square bales, such as round bales and l in all, a amazing book for anyone interesting in learning about haymaking. It filled in some gaps for me and leaves me more confident when I purchase that piece of land and a tractor.

    Small-Scale Haymaking: How to Get Started (Country Work) []  2020-1-25 2:45

    I was very excited to see this book and purchased it in Kindle form. The author quickly got down to the point of saying little scale haymaking can only be possible with used equipment unless you have $1,000,000 and wish to do this as a tax write off or a e book is written for a person who has virtually no experience in agriculture and the associated equipment. The formatting of the book was very difficult to follow. Topics jumped around with no transition or logic. Hopefully the printed ver is better . An example is a discussion on rakes is interrupted by grass types. One piece of equipment is discussed then followed with a picture of another type. There are too a lot of of these examples in the book to be just a one time problem. If the printed ver is this method too, the editor didn't support the author much.|Several major improvements might be :1) A discussion of the true cost of making hay in regards to equipment, fuel, repairs, fertilizer, lime and grass seed compared to the return at a specific hay price per ton. This might be true eye opener for someone who might be considering this in an economic perspective.2) While Mr. Yost suggests used equipment, he makes only one reference to the horse power needed of a tractor, the most necessary piece of data needed. Ironically, the most readily available used tractor is the Ford 8 N. It has about 29 hp. According to Mr. Yost, that tractor is too little for any baler. But would someone explain how hay was created when the average tractor was 25 hp? I once had a John Deere 24T baler with a Wisconsin engine. It did not take the tractor PTO to run it. The previous owner of the baler used an 8N to cut, ted, rake and bale hay. An in depth comparison of tractor hp and balers would have been worth twice the price of the book. A discussion of auxiliary power would also be helpful. I still wonder if there really are vintage balers that can reasonably bale hay with less than 30 hp.3) Fresh compact tractors are one of the largest selling tractor lines today with people purchasing little acreage to "farm" or whatever, You can buy a 25 hp John Deere, Fresh Holland,Kubota, or whatever for $300 per month. Are there vintage balers that will fit these compact tractors? I know you can buy brand fresh square or round baler for compact tractors but they are over $15 K.4) The discussion of balers was too generic and to those of us who aren't familiar with the mechanism could have used a generic diagram or exploded parts diagram to locate stuff and understand the spacial relationship of the equipment.5) A discussion of timing a baler would have been very helpful. A baler out of time, will break the unit with its first bale. Not understanding how to check timing is a sure method to ruin a baler. Knowing this process especially for an old baler seems to me to be rhaps the author might consider adding and expanding his book in the second addition if the demand is high enough. Unfortunately after reading the book, it leaves me with more questions than answers and just a small bit frustrated. I was hoping for true experience and insight into how little scale haymaking might be feasible. I'll hold searching the internet for info.

    This is a nicely place together book covering a lot of the basics -- materials, how to mat, using tissue, etc. plus 50 projects intended to introduce the reader to various styles of collage making. I do want the book included one step by step approach to making a collage that included the glueing process and troubleshooting problems, such as dealing with bubbles and wrinkles. But overall a nice colourful book, and very well edited so there are no typos and mis-spellings.

    Love the book | Follow the erican collage and mixed-media artist Randel Plowman is a rare bird in the crazy-popular medium of rst, he is male. And, he is relatively young to be as established in the art globe as he cond, he does not follow nor prescribe to anyone else's methods of structuring his artworks, and lastly, he is a fine writer.His assemblage techniques are straight forward, user-friendly and going through this book it is as if you were taking a class or work with him. I happened upon the artist well before the book, and am glad I knew of his worksAs I have said in a lot of art book reviews before: Any "How To" is likely going to tell you something. What it will not do is create you a better artist. *That* is up to you, the end user. So, you can buy this book and others like it, and read through the text and admire the photographs and the artwork - but if you do nothing more than that please do not complain that this book did not "help" you with your e "help" comes from you. It is the daily, regular practice of your craft, whether you sew, knit, paint, sculpt, write or dance. The everyday or very regular commitment to your muse is what makes you is book is a fine example of what regular practice of one's art, and of one's passion, will provide: a level of expertise amazing enough to share.Excellent prompts and suggestions on furthering your own work, as well as a dozens of examples of of my favorite books on the subject, to date.

    How to Get Started in Free-Machine Embroidery []  2020-5-18 19:13

    I'm not fresh to sewing, but have never tried free-machine embroidery. Though there are a lot of nice, free guides online, I found they were missing the most primary steps and was getting frustrated trying to learn. This book really didn't tell me anything I never heard of (use of needles, winding a bobbin, using stabilizers, etc), but it was necessary to understand the "why" of those things in terms of this technique. I found the author to be primary and thorough, while also sharing her obvious skill, technique, and love for this art form. This was exactly the missing piece I required to obtain started - her step-by-step style was excellent for me. Also, the fact I could obtain this on Kindle was another plus. I am looking forward to practicing this technique!

    The Collage Workbook: How to Get Started and Stay Inspired []  2020-1-20 1:19

    This book got such amazing reviews, I couldn't wait to recieve it. My enthusiasm only lasted through the first few pages; Randall Plowman provides a stellar overview of collage tools and materials. After that the book begins to go downhill. He gives a decent but cursory review of design principles. I would have liked to have more depth and a greater number of examples. Then he reviews only two specific techniques; printing on tracer paper and laser transfers. After that he jumps directly to matting your work. So after teasing the reader with an awesome array of tools, he doesn't really teach the reader how to use them. He spends the rest of the book (approximatley 80 expensive, color pages) giving very simplistic creativity prompts, like test tissue paper or test cardboard. These prompts are fun but could be layed out in ten pages or less. This book has a amazing beginning, an interesting array of creativity prompts and almost no how-to. It's a attractive looking book but if you wish to learn techniques, skip it and buy something more helpful. I will as soon as I figure out which book that might be.

It's concise and fairly easy to follow. It gives you the fundamental concepts of Art in relation to Collage. As a beginner, I know that I'll use this book over and over. Already I created some inroads into this "newfound art." I have made greeting cards et some little matted Collages as gifts. I'm not as intimidated as I used to be and not afraid to cover something I don't like with more layers! That is Collage by excellence!

    This is a comprehensive tutorial that will take you through not just the basics, but the steps, the cautions, the must do things and the absolutely don’t do things of machine ere are hints that will create your embroidery projects both successful and fun. After all, if it isn't fun, why do it?Just one of a lot of examples: Anyone who has done the least amount of sewing, either hand or machine, knows that some thread is “fuzzy”. But did you know what kind of issues that will cause? Other than breaking easy, I had no idea of the other issues, and how they create such a mess of your embroidery. You will learn what to look for and how to avoid the issues to start with.I read a lot of self-help nonfiction books; I just have a curious mind that way. Margo Price’s book is not just a chop above - it is a clear superior stand out. Recently there has been a powerful trend for short, shorter, and ultra-short “books” coming out. They are really nothing more than barely a glorified counter top brochure obviously based on at most a couple hours of internet research where the author clearly does not really know the is book is the opposite of that trend. This book is a well thought out, fully fleshed out, in-depth walk through all of the pieces you will need to be successful. It is based on literally years of experience – small things like using an egg timer, or wipe down the needle with surgical spirit, or needle burrs, or… or …. The attention to all the small info that will create your project fun or frustrating is a delight to t only does it have the info for successful embroidery, there are a couple beginner projects at the end of the book. It is obvious that Margo Price is an experienced teacher because she patiently shows every step on a doable yet increasing challenging set of practice pieces moving on to a nice project that anyone would love to have when it is finished.

    Small-Scale Haymaking: How to Get Started (Country Work) []  2020-1-25 2:45

    This book is a amazing introduction to classic small-scale haymaking, at least from the used equipment side of things. The a lot of pictures complemented the text very well. That said, there was essentially zero info on the different types of haymaking plants which you might wish to consider for your operation, which would probably require an entirely separate book. The best source of info on that subject will be your local agricultural extension service(s) anyway. Not much mention of modern machinery and techniques, but you probably cannot afford to invest in all fresh equipment and create any cash with a little operation anyway, so the author delivers as promised.

    The book was very informative and excellent for a person who wants to farm 5-10 acres of hay.I gave it 5 stars for the book content. If I could rate the Kindle adaptation I would give it 1 star. Everything seemed to be out of order - especially the pictures. They seemed to be randomly dispersed throughout the book. The index at the end was useless, too. If I could do it over again I would buy the printed version.

With used equipment, a modi of mechanical ability (you can't farm at any level without at least an honest try), and the time and interest to give it a go - you can supply yourself with all your hay needs, or actually turn a beautiful fair profit. I highly recommend it...

    The Collage Workbook: How to Get Started and Stay Inspired []  2020-1-20 1:19

    The only type of collage artist I think would NOT benefit from this book is one of whom all three of the following are true: 1) Already technically competent; 2) Has an established style which remains entirely satisfying; 3) Never runs out of ideas or motivation. For everyone else interested in collage, I cannot imagine how this book would fail e key words in understanding the purpose of this book and its intended audience are in the subtitle: "Get Started" and "Stay Inspired." Everything about this book is exceptionally well-tuned to accomplish these ends. (Unfortunately, the "Look Inside" feature doesn't adequately reflect this, due to the usual mistake of omitting ALL of the main substance of the biggest section of the book and including only a few of the very first pages and the latest few. How a lot of lists of supplies and materials do we need to preview? For a flip-through view of some of the other pages, see BeachBrights's video, after you obtain an idea of what I mean, here.)The "Get Started" component of the book can be interpreted in several ways, and The Collage Workbook admirably addresses each."Get Started" can imply: * Instruction for the complete beginner. * Prompts for getting ideas flowing. * Motivation to start working. * Initial materials with which to with every section of this book, the introductory sections on supplies, techniques, design considerations, and sources of imagery are pithier than those in most other references. They are also at least equally useful, as most, and may be more so. These sections also provide value to those artists growing jaded by long familiarity with habitual materials, supplies, and techniques, or whose imagery libraries could use sprucing up. Although, one criticism: In the "Finding Imagery Online" section, most of the Web links to clip art (also linked directly from the author's site) are to imagery suitable only for screen-resolution collages; only a few bear printing out, especially if you prefer to work in a huge scale. Even so, the introductory sections proved valuable to me: Despite several years of reading on mixed-media topics, I found it refreshing to explore a way of photo transfer I haven't encountered ditionally, the author contains a nice selection of clip art in the back of the book, also available from his Web site. Since these are already at print resolution, you may obtain slightly better results at larger scale; however, do realize that (like most published imagery, these days) even these examples originated as digital scans; rectilinear pixels will appear, if you enlarge too much.(For another interesting selection of incidental clip art, albeit of an entirely various style of content, see The Art of Vintage Journaling and Collage: Techniques and Inspiration for Working with Antique Ephemera, a bargain, single-volume reprint of Vintage Collage Journals: Journaling with Antique Ephemera and Vintage Collage-Works: Artful Ideas with Antique Ephemera.)The design basics, while important for books targeting complete novices, are largely a rehash of a lot of of the same principles stated for the same purposes in other books. The presentation is relatively complete and unusually practical, clear, and concise, though not fresh to anyone who has researched related topics. However, the visual examples included--all of it the author's work--can yield rewards to any who already know or have just learned the material, and who study the examples closely.With the aforementioned basics tidily covered, the author amply fulfills the second promise of the subtitle, "Stay Inspired." The subsequent 50 Creative Exercises compose the bulk of the book and contribute its principal value--especially for the experienced artist, who will likely gloss over the earlier sections. Each exercise contains from one to seven example collages responding to the idea of that exercise. Again, all are executed by the author. Again, with critical scrutiny, the photos themselves yield insights. But the exercises are the things that create the book worth keeping close by, and for years.Examples of the 50 Creativity Exercises include: * White Out: Use shades of white as the dominant element in your collage.(This is actually a variation of, but usefully distinct from, another of the exercises....) * Color Plunge: Make a monochromatic collage in a color of your choice * Typography: Use typographic elements as graphic components, independent of their linguistic meanings. * Seeing Double: Repeat the same element in a single collage.While these examples may seem simplistic, out of context, their very simplicity functions both to hold the exercises motivating as starting-points and to hold them sufficiently adaptable, to the individual artist and surrounding working context, that they can remain fresh, even if repeated over a period of weeks, months, or years.I think that one very amazing method to use this book--either while first learning to work in collage, or when facing artist's block, later on--is to randomly select one technique, one design element, and one compositional tactic to employ (from the first section of the book), along with one of the 50 Creative Exercises. Then, make a collage within those constraints.If you still feel stuck about where to begin, randomly select one background element from your stash or the clip art at the back of the book, and one photo to incorporate, in either a focal or supporting role. From the base of those decisions, apply the workflow principles in the "Layering 101" section of the book. The number of inspiring and motivating permutations this way would generate (especially as you add favored components to your stashes of imagery, skills, and materials) would probably outlast the physical life of this book.Further, The Collage Workbook exemplifies two benefits of presenting a range of works by a single artist--particularly when varied groups of those works proceed from the same well-defined beginnings. First, I always search it useful to be able to compare more than one app of the same design principle or fabrication technique, by the same artist. Doing so permits the studied element of the work to emerge more clearly, since the stylistic and visual vocabularies tend to be held more nearly constant. Even for fresh collage artists, the technical education at the beginning of the book is sufficient to permit extracting this extra layer of info from the examples of the author's work, taken as a cond (and again viewed as a body of work by a single artist), an equivalent benefit derives from considering the artist's use of related thematic content. For the astute viewer, this permits a kind of self-education on the topic of developing variations on a theme. Scanning the entire book with either this, or the immediately-preceding, consideration in mind rewards the e previous two stuff are useful to keep in mind when reading any book on an artistic subject. However, they are particularly useful when applied to such a huge and varied--yet, stylistically-related--body of work as that presented in this compact, useful, and accessible volume.I have been researching and collecting books in the fields of mixed media, hybrid og/digital art, and printmaking for a number of years. I have bought so a lot of books that I've repeatedly strained my budget and have begun borrowing the available titles from the library. This book is one I renewed so a lot of times, that I'd already decided to buy it; but when the price fell to the ridiculously low $8.97 (as of this writing), I could no longer justify delaying my purchase. I expect The Collage Workbook to keep my interest, hold me busy, and become a frequent and treasured reference, over the next several years, at ose who appreciate the approach of The Collage Workbook might also benefit from a couple of my other favorite references: Collage Lab: Experiments, Investigations, and Exploratory Projects (Lab Series) and Print & Stamp Lab: 52 Ideas for Handmade, Upcycled Print Tools (Lab Series). The approach of both books is in some ways related to that in The Collage Workbook--concise instructions, a broad range of fundamental techniques--but adds suggested variations and explorations for transforming the results into something uniquely your own. The 52 exercises in each are neatly selected to cover a year's worth of weekly projects. Highly recommended as inspirational means of breaking through artistic paralysis.

    Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement: The Secret to Freedom, Flexibility, and Financial Independence (& how to get started!) [Book]  2019-11-29 18:0

    You know that feeling when you read a book that you just KNOW instantly adds value to your life? I downloaded this onto my kindle and literally read the book with a notebook by my side to take notes! There are so a lot of amazing hints and ideas in here but not only that, the author takes the time to break it down, explain in detail, and give you the tools and confidence to know that you can implement these ideas in your life and make passive income. She also writes to you like a friend, puts info into terms that you can understand (wait until you read the section on social security towards the beginning of the book). Can't wait to place some of these plans into action. I already own a rental property, but feel like I have the tools now to expand that zone of my passive income and turn it into a larger stream of revenue. The options are seriously limitless and I'm PUMPED to obtain started after reading this book!

    I was looking for something fresh to test and thought about basket weaving. I figured that I’d obtain a couple books and read about it before I jump in and begin trying to create a basket. So far, it looks interesting. The book is interesting and informative about basket weaving.

    Part my fault, but wanted to support you avoid a related mistake..this is a book only - not the tools (as the title may mislead) that you need for basket-making. Seems comprehensive, but I cant say for sure since I thought I was going to obtain a set of tools along with it. shame on me, for the price I should have known. Holding the book and making another order for materials.

    This book is not only spiral bound to create it simple to use, the COLORED, detailed pictures can create anyone master the jewerly making techniques. For instance, I really required some support figuring out how to create the wrapped loops and learned I wss using the wrong kind of wire AND not holding the pliers correctly. What a difference it has created for me as I expand my fresh hobby!I think this book is well written and worth every penny. I will refer to it again and if only writers would now produce a book for more advanced techniques!!

    Not poor as a catalog for ways of generating passive income. This 27 year old cheerleading author was barely alive in 2008 and appears unaware of the degree of RISK in some of the activities she advocates. BRRRR is not just aggressive; for people who are not extremely lucky, it is a ticket to bankruptcy court with a change in interest rates. Only for readers who like being entertained by chatty authors, but take her tip with a grain of salt! ;

    Rachel's 'Money Honey' really helped spur me on to better savings (I paid off all my student loans, partly in thanks to her kick in the butt). That one was is one...means business. Don't obtain me wrong, it's a amazing book, it might be legit changing my life, but it will create you feel all the things. WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE is one example. WHY CANT I MAKE A MILLION DOLLARS RIGHT NOW, is another example. HOW DO I GO BUY 18 HOUSES IN THE NEXT 12 MINUTES? WHY AM I NOT A CREATIVE GENIUS? That kind of thing. The mood swings are real, at least for me. She makes it sound so easy, I obtain a bit angry at myself. Jacq, you don't need to go buy 18 houses. You don't need to be a creative genius. You are fully equipped with the tools to create a passive income. So why haven't I BEEN doing this??But...I'm telling myself this is all a amazing thing, because you know what? I've started my first passive income stream. (This has been a long-time dream of mine far before this book, but I didn't know what to do). I didn't realize, until reading this, how a lot of options I had. Now it feels like the power is in my hands, which is both scary and daunting and "ohmigod" but also totally freeing and liberating and "I feel such a sense of potential." I hate that this woman had this respond this whole time—that all these people did—and I'm just now catching on. Gah. In a sense, it feels like waking , in short, buy the damn book. Be prepared for all the feels, and then do something about it.

    Written like a millennial, with a bit of cringe-worthy advice, I'm not sure how much of this can actually be applied to true life. I'm glad she states you should check with your tax attorney about things like not paying taxes on passive income because I'm sure that is not the case. Making 10k a month is great, but she also mentions her husband continues to work and they don't seem to have faced real-life challenges yet. The research and info are well presented and the author has a flair for bringing positivity to her writing.

    "Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement" gives hope to those of us who feel like we're living paycheck to paycheck. The author tells how you can create something out of nothing (well, not *nothing* if you consider time and energy to be *something*), which means that anyone with a small grit and desire can build an income stream that isn't tied to a 9-to-5 gig over 40-some years. (Kinda tired just thinking about that.) Rachel gives down-to-Earth, practical tip for so a lot of various income opportunities that there's surely something for everyone. I'm going to begin writing the book I've been thinking about, designing the online class I wish to teach, and plotting ways to buy a rental property. She gave me a vision! Ha! Also, I work in marketing for a publishing company, and I learned things I can use on the job, so that was an unexpected bonus!

    Rachel has done another book, Cash Honey, which is absolutely amazing and created me buy this one quick. Passive income is necessary in our days, as it makes it easier for us not just to create a living but also place some cash to the very side of retirement. This subject has been on top of my interest for years but I’ve never given it too much thought. The book does what it says, giving you all of the info on these subjects in a pleasant, easy starts with a history lesson about cash and how to retire. Just the idea of making a retirement these days infuriates people. Rachel goes on by explaining how her passive income is happening, of how she created it so that she has steady flows of money coming into her bank acc on a monthly basis. This has created it easier for me to understand what I have to do in order to obtain there, including changing my career direction. And setting up my retirement I was finishing the book, I got my notebook and regrouped all of the info and ideas that I knew where going to be working for my private situation. I drew an action plan, focusing on getting passive income and achieving financial freedom. All along putting cash to the side for my retirement and making sure finances were going to be at the top of my priorities not just when I’d create investments but even when strolling down the isles at the local groceries store.

That is what Rachel Richard's PIAR book offers you.....the ability to understand Passive Income, why you need it (umm, goodbye Social Security and traditional retirement incomes), and how to obtain started. The method she breaks down the identified types, goes into DETAILS about them all, and plants and supports you to come up with ideas is AMAZING. Such an simple read, not just for the millennial but for anyone who wants to break free of traditional employment settings. I'm 44 years old and my mind is blowing up with ideas on how to start.Her case studies gave me hope that anyone can do this and allowed me to hear from people who have worked to make passive income. The most "real" part of the book is how Rachel and those she profiles explain that it is work to make a passive income, and that, ideally, you wish to have multiple PI streams. I love the realism throughout the book. She is so encouraging, educational, and lighthearted. I highly suggest anyone read this!

In a method that is easy to understand.Ive heard a lot of videos and talks before on passive income but very small explained it the method Rachel does in her book. She created it fun, used private experiences and case study to support us not only understand better each type of passive income, but also support us see the pros and cons in each and support us decide which would be better for us.I truly recommend this book not only for its content (it is well researched with private experiences from author but also with other successful passive income gainer from each type), but also just from the fact that its a fun read and can support you obtain fresh perspective of what type of passive income is right for you!

    The author, Rachel, does an wonderful job of taking an intimidating subject and breaking it down in simple to understand, and even better, simple to start to implement steps.I like to think I know a decent amount about retirement, but even I felt ill-informed after reading her section here. She lays out some current, traditional retirement plans and I've never read anything that explains social security as simply as she place it...and why it's not something we should rely on in the long another section of the book, she helps break down the math on time vs. cash and to really start to look at what is your time worth. This really helps use that thought process to decide when it's smarter to do a job yourself or use another's time/expertise.Whether you're trying to place passive income into play or not, I think this is a must read for anyone who is thinking about and planning now for retirement in years to come.

And there are risks. Look at renting.

    Not poor as a catalog for ways of generating passive income. This 27 year old cheerleading author was barely alive in 2008 and appears unaware of the degree of RISK in some of the activities she advocates. BRRRR is not just aggressive; for people who are not extremely lucky, it is a ticket to bankruptcy court with a change in interest rates. Only for readers who like being entertained by chatty authors, but take her tip with a grain of salt! ;

    Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement: The Secret to Freedom, Flexibility, and Financial Independence (& how to get started!) []  2020-9-22 18:1

    Not poor as a catalog for ways of generating passive income. This 27 year old cheerleading author was barely alive in 2008 and appears unaware of the degree of RISK in some of the activities she advocates. BRRRR is not just aggressive; for people who are not extremely lucky, it is a ticket to bankruptcy court with a change in interest rates. Only for readers who like being entertained by chatty authors, but take her tip with a grain of salt! ;

    After reading Rachel Richards' first book, Cash Honey, I knew that any book she wrote afterward would be an immediate "Add to Cart." I was thrilled when I learned she'd be writing about passive income, a subject that's been on my mind for years.Let me tell you: this book DELIVERED. Rachel starts by walking you through the changing times, the outdated ways of thinking when it comes to retirement, and what YOUR most valuable resource is. The mini-history lesson alone in the first section of the book had my jaw on the floor. No wonder people are so frustrated with retirement (even just the IDEA of retirement) these days.Rachel goes on to provide a breakdown of her passive income streams, detailed examples of each and allowed me truly to see how I can change the method I think of my time, my career path, and my RETIREMENT. I place down the book and immediately mapped out ideas that work for me, my family, and my goals and a rough action plan to achieving passive income streams that would give us financial freedom. I've already picked the book up to start to reread the sections that apply to what I see working for is book is the kick in the pants for anyone that is tired of feeling like they're doing all the right things, working all the additional hours, but not obtaining financial freedom. This book will end up in quite a few stockings this year! It's a must-have.
