I purchased this for my fresh 2019 Subaru Outback. Since it is a leased vehicle, I did not wish finger nail scratches behind the door handles to fall into play under "wear and tear" when it comes time to turn the vehicle in.I followed the directions on the packaging and read reviews that described the app process. I applied my protector by inserting under the door handle up from the bottom. It was easier for me to judge how high up the protector would sit. I then smoothed out any bubbles and excess water by using my fingers as a squeegee.... took less than 15 mins to apply this product to all 4 doors.Highly recommended to protect the paint behind the door handles.
I followed the instructions provided and the stuck as they are supposed to. Unfortunately i couldn’t figure out how to peel the paper off and applying them without a little part of my finger touching the adhesive and leaving a permanent fingerprint that is very noticeable on the car. I even washed my hands and wiped my fingertips with alcohol to remove any oils from my skin. Fortunately these peel off easily enough to put in the garbage.
2006 Acura TL (white pearl) - almost invisible... First - don't use knockoff movie - they peel/flake or don't stick at all - spring for a few more bucks to obtain "the amazing (3M) stuff". Second - wash your vehicle getting off the grime, use a wash mitt to obtain under the door handle. Even if you don't dry your car, at least dry under/on/around the door handles. Third - use something like Meguiar's G10307 ScratchX 2.0 (Amazon ~$9) to buff out the scratches - YouTube has plenty of videos to present you how to do this. Any scratches/marks left behind will still present through the "scratch guard" movie so be sure they are all rubbed out - mine had 10+ years of a-woman-with-long-nails-must-have-owned-this-car-before-me hurt but they were all gone in less than a min (per door) with this stuff. Then wipe off with a damp cloth to remove any residue and leave a nice clean, dry surface. Finally, remove these from the backing - truthfully, it was easier to just to peel them from the full sheet than punch it out... Slide it behind the door handle, sticky side towards the car, but keeping it in contact with the handle as you lower it vertically. I then allow it stick to a fingertip on my 'free' hand so my 'lowering' hand could center it into put while the other hand/finger helped tutorial it to center. Once in-place, allow it begin sticking to the vehicle at the top then work my/your method down, leveling it out and working out any air pockets along the way. Total time - 5 mins / door at most. Looks very transparent when done and no more nail scratches - ever. Money/time well spent in my book.
Before buying these I purchased a related product (at more than twice the price) created by a 3M competitor. They were supposedly “custom cut” to fit my 2018 Avalon. I tried to install one of them but finally gave up after about 30 minutes. They were much larger and created of a thicker laminate. While these 3M movies are generic, somewhat thinner and smaller, I was able to install all 4 in less than 20 minutes. They came with a very little instruction sheet which was not well written and obviously not of US origin. So, for anyone interested - here is info on how I installed them:To install all you need is a spray bottle containing a couple cups of tap water mixed with 4-5 drops of baby shampoo and some little microfiber towels. First, use the spray mix to clean well around each door cup and the underside of the door handles. Then wipe the locations dry with a micro towel. IMO, it is better to install these in a well lighted garage or shade rather than in direct sunlight. Begin by figuring out exactly where you wish to position the movie in each door cup. Install the movies one door at a time. Using your fingernail, search somewhere to separate the movie and white backing, but just fold back a little tab of the white backing. Now spray the door cup zone liberally and spray the fingers on both of your hands. Grab the white tab, pull off all the backing and carefully put the sticky side of the movie into the wet door cup. It will slide around easily. Once positioned where you wish it, begin in the center of the movie and use your fingertips to lightly rub back and forth (left to right) forcing water and air out of the edges. Once the center of the movie is “secured” flat to the door cup, use your thumb to push water up from the center and out the top half, then down and out the bottom half of the film. Hold working this method until you are happy the movie is flat to the door cup and nearly all water and air are out. Then, use a finger and a dry micro towel to push any little amounts of remaining water and air out from under the film. At this point you can apply much more pressure because the micro towel will slide easily on the laminate. Use the towel to dry any excess water remaining on the movie and around the door cup area. Hope this helps someone.
Instructions say to wet the paint and then remove entire adhesive backing and then apply to concave paint surface behind door handle. That's next to impossible to do without ruining the product or having creases and bubbles which you can't remove. First one was a throwaway after attempting to install. Second went somewhat better after taking off only half of backing and then installing top half. Still had creases in it but not terrible. Third and fourth went on is was expensive to start with and turned out to be twice as expensive due to their lousy installation instructions. Avoid this item.
Create sure you apply it correctly.1) Clean and buff out the scratches that are there. I used the meguiars scratch x which worked beautiful good.2) Clean the zone after buffing it out with soap and water to remove any remaining particles.3) Mix in a spray bottle 2-3 tablespoons of soap and 8 oz of tap water. Now shake the bottle to mix this.4) Spray the mixture on the zone behind the door handle.5) Peel the back of the 3M door handle guard and spray the mixture on the back of the 3M door handle guard as well. MAKE SURE YOU APPLY A GOOD AMOUNT TO BOTH THE DOOR AND YHE BACK OF THE 3M DOOR HANDLE GUARD!!!6) Apply the 3M door handle guard to the door behind the handle. Move it around until you have it in the right desired position. If done correctly the 3M door handle guard will slide around and will not stick and stay in one position.7) Now take a card or a rubber card preferably or you can use your finger and squeegee the water out of it. Now the 3M door handle guard should be stuck and won't move around.8) Allow it dry for 24hrs and you are finished!
They are easily viewed when applied. The outline is very obvious. I am leaving them on though because they are sturdy enough to provide protection. I am not crazy the fact that they are very obvious to detect on the door. One of them had a piece of another protector with the paper attached to it. I thought I might have to return them, but was able to separate them. A hassle though. They seem thick enough and if you view a video on app you'll have an easier time installing them.
Hard to install within that confined space. Instructions were less that clear as they appeared to be translated from another language into English, without being checked for accuracy.
These are thick enough to prevent scratches from rings/nails, etc., but unlike others, are not glued in place...meaning that when you mess up the first couple of times trying to put them under the handle, they can be pealed off and repositioned.
I received these installed on vehicle, not as simple as latest ones i had on for 2 1/2 years. Had some body work done all but 3 were taken off. bought these......had on for roughly 3 weeks - turn yellow and when i removed them - the adhesive remanined and nothing will remove it.....so I will have to take it back to body to ask them to remove the adhesive.Worst product I've ever owned.
I purchased this product to install on my brand fresh 2019 Toyota 4 Runner. I created 2 mixtures, in separate bottles, of an alcohol mixture to clean the zone and soapy mixture for the application. The alcohol mix was 2 oz rubbing alcohol to 6 oz water. The soapy mix was 8 oz water and 2 to 3 drops of baby shampoo. I cleaned the zone behind my door handles with the alcohol mix and dried with a cloth. I then lightly sprayed the zone with the soapy mix, sprayed my fingers and then peeled the adhesive from the paper and sprayed the side to be attached. I lined up the adhesive where I wanted it and gently worked the bubbles out to the closest edge of the adhesive. It will be slippery so be patient. Once bubbles are gone, gently wipe dry with a cloth and work remaining little bubbles out. I did not like how one was positioned so I removed it and started the process again. I found that they can be adjusted as long as they don't set up for a long period of vehicle is white which makes it difficult to see the adhesive in pictures. I am going to apply another set to my husbands brand fresh black 2019 Honda Accord next. I hope they latest and hold the paint behind our door handles from getting scratched from fingernails and is recommended that you do not wash the car for at least 24 hours to let adhesive to adhere well.
Arrived 2 days earlier than ze is not correct I 3.25 x 3.25" but true measure is 3.0 x 3.25" ... A bit thick ...Anyway it is smaller than most std door cup handle. If it is 3.5 x 3.25" it is will better te I apply on my Subaru Legacy 2018
It's a bit difficult trying to create sure you have the right sensitivities for the different alerts. You also don't appear to have an option to change your password which I only recently realised my stalker ex had. Other than that this is a amazing idea and we'll done to hollie's parents who founded the charity which created it. Promote it folks. Thanks again application wizards!
The material is too thin. Simple to apply however being so thin, the so called protective tape is easily compromised and the surface trying to be protected is not protected. Waste of time and money. Pulled it off and threw it away.
Product was chop crooked and had notches all along each side. Also, product was not one continuous piece, it was several pieces taped together- super disappointed- I would definitely not recommend this product and would return it if I hadn’t already attempted to apply it
Honestly I ignored the poor reviews with people saying the edges were coarse and stringy. I thought it was just a poor batch, and it wouldn't happen to me. Yet it was wrong, these strips do have the sticky strings. It is because they are chop poorly, and it's like a double chop (~0.3-0.5mm wide strings). To create matters worse, it was only 120in (10') which is NOT enough for 4 door consider another seller.
This tape is a amazing product. One thing I didn't message till I was almost done was they had spliced a piece on of several centimeters to meet the full distance they advertise. Fortunately, in my case it really didn't really matter, I was able to obtain all 4 doors done.
This is a wide 3m sheet that someone chop down narrower. The chop edge is very rough and the width is inconsistent. It does appear to be 3M movie but is then chop to a narrower strip and the chop job is poor.
Installed on my 2018 Ford F150 Squad Cab. Had just enough to do all 4 doors. Installation went easily by just following the instructions. Appears to be amazing quality material and once installed you have to obtain close to even see it. I liked it so much I another kit to install on my other vehicle.
This movie was so thick I could not obtain it to adhere to my door edges. Also, very hard to chop right, even with a razor blade because it is so thick. This movie reminds me of the hood protector units, as it is so thick. Since it's no pliable at all (even when I heated it), it did not work on door edge angle changes well at all. Had to use very small of it and returned the entire kit. Need a much thinner, more pliable door edge product that is not freaking industrial strength and won't bend easily. Ugh.
It seem the roll is chop from a larger roll. Hence, the chop is not straight & clean in some spots and has some thin threads dangling that I had to trim off.
Unfortunately it seems that they must have been running low on tape and decided to piece 2 sections together. Barely had enough to complete the car. Had to remove almost a whole section because of the joint.
Finally I place the guard on.. was beautiful simple took 20 minutes may be.. ..Key is not to remove all of ti at once... Slowly peel off the back while sticking it on to the door... And it's super easy.. will modernize the review after a month of use...For now I would give a 5 star..And its really invisible at this point...
Nothing more than a template for me to trace onto a decent material. Simply cannot use. Difficult to describe how not good the sticker quality is, would not latest if you were able to obtain it on a flat surface (will not contour to any curves). Do not recommend.
The product appeared to be well created but the description in the ad gave the wrong size of the product. When went to install it did not fit correctly and when I double checked the measurements found them to off more than 1/2".
The stickers are very small. They do not fit Honda CRV 2014. The seller professionally handled the issue. Thank ease check the measurement of your vehicle door handle before purchase.
It's a very little like a little patch doesn't looks amazing on my Highlander SUV and the color is beautiful shiny and doesn't go along with the black color at all
Cheap. Should have known. It was super thin. And it was sooo hard to apply without any air bubbles. Definitely little in size. But covered issue areas.
Received product as described. It does not cover entire zone for door handle. Regardless, it will work as intended and protect my door from scratches. Simple to install (be sure to properly clean zone before install) If you don’t mind the partial coverage then these will do the trick.
A bit little and the adhesive isnt very powerful, but they aren't expensive and they do function as intended. Picture attached shows installation on a 2010 Honda Civic
I'm sure I could have checked the dimensions before getting them, but these seem small. That said, they do fit under the handles well, and they will do the job. I also think they look nice. I own a Scion tC so I have six spares, which I will use. I suggest using caution when applying them so that you don't obtain any folds or bubbles. I'll be reapplying them to create them look a small better. That said, amazing product. Does what it needs to.
Came back to another roll and scrolled down to the reviews and am very surprised at the number of reviews stating how challenging it is for some. My private experience is that it was simple enough; maybe due to my residential window tint experience, though that requires water. In either case, amazing product, very simple to install.
If you are installing this and have never done it before, it can be difficult and you will obtain bubbles. Overall, my experience was positive and I would this product again if I required it.
Stuff arrived as described and fix it as per description the only issue is after few months it started coming out automatically. I [email protected]#$%! could stay longer. I have used it for about 3 months and since it started coming out automatically I will have to throw them by removing rest.I want It could stays at least couple of rainy season if not longer.
** DO NOT TRY TO APPLY WITHOUT WATER!**Use a spray bottle to mist the desired app zone with water, *then* apply the film.Just installed it. Impossibly tricky to apply dry, so I can totally see why other reviewers had problems with bubbles, but I'm used to applying movies to my windows and figured you just required to spray the zone with some water first. Worked like a charm. Water allows you to reposition the movie slightly and squeegee all the bubbles out. Didn't interfere with adhesion. In fact, I went through a carwash hours after applying and it didn't present any sign of budging. I removed and repositioned the tape a lot during the app without any hurt to my car, and I doubt it will hurt the vehicle when I remove it years from now.
Used water to install on the car’s doorsills. Got most of the bubbles out, but the tape didn’t stick down 100% around the corners, so I had to trim the tape to avoid the corners. Overall, it’s not poor for the price, but could be better. I’ll probably test something else when these obtain old.update - a few days after application, more bubbles appeared. I think some adhesive must have came off when doing wet application. I will replace these with something else.
I am not very amazing with these types of things but it worked out really well from me. I used it on my back bumper to avoid the possible wear and tear of the weather or putting things in the trunk. Had it on for over a year now with lots of washes, and I love that it’s still clear!
These are awful. It’s like trying to put really, really thin plastic wrap on our vehicle doors. If you can manage to remove them from the original backing, amazing luck trying to obtain them placed on the vehicle door without wrinkles. Oh and they do not have adhesive on them. Like I said, they are like really thin pieces of plastic wrap material.
Don’t buy. They are super thin. Looked like a piece of papers only. Waste of money. I obtain there’s a lot but still not worse any money. Got method better ones on the want application for cheaper
Total rip-off. Advertised as 3M, but is some alternate Chinese items which doesn't say 3M anywhere on it. Did not even test since it is being sold by liars.
I'm sorry to have to agree with the other reviewers who indicate it doesn't stick. This product isn't well designed. It's too narrow, and falls off if you touch it. Very difficult to [email protected]#$%! back on as the rubbery adhesive separates from the plastic once this happens.
Would not recommend. The adhesive is gummy and weak meaning the strip is constantly coming off or moving. And the more you fix it, the weaker the adhesive gets.I have used other brands in the past that work great. I would advise AGAINST getting this as you will be wasting your money.
Smaller than most door door edge guards, but adhesive makes it stay place and it is almost invisible. Looks nice and keeps your door edges from getting nicked. Be aware that it is a small more tedious to install, but well worth it.
Installed now on all four doors to reduce likelihood of paint or metal hurt to my doors, or vehicles nearby when the door gets blown begin on exit. Finesse for installation increases door by door. Appears to be a very effective product!
It went on fine. By day 2 it was coming off. Very disappointing for 3m adhesive. I would not recommend it. I used this on the front door of my Acura Mdx. I used another brand on my black truck without the glue. It has metal clips in the rubber and it worked great. It only came in black though so I bought this because Suv is silver.
I have tried a lot of times putting on clear movies and I struggle every time...I have the right tools, patience, yet it is never excellent or really good. I think the temperature is more necessary than mentioned, I had problems when the temp is to high and too low, maybe 70 to 80 is best?Just maybe, I will test again next month...
Not only is this material useless, once you it you can’t return it even if you haven’t used it. I purchased a much better product at an automotive store. Huge mistake not to have read reviews. I am a prime member but feel Amazon is “getting to huge for it’s britches” Will be canceling.
Do not this, this is a not good product, even with heat and additional care, two repeated hood wraps were botched by wrinkles and weird discolorations. The product I received was defective, it had very visible weird matte blotches in it once it was applies to the vehicle. Also, I purchased a 180" roll, the seller sent me about 166". Avoid, Avoid, Avoid.
Prime delivery arrived on time as usual.Purchased this clear plastic protection movie for set of fresh washer/dryer that I purchased. The washer/dryer had amazing reviews as for how they worked, but the only complain was that the paint "scuffed" somewhat easily. I used the movie to put on top of the dryer and to cover the washer door for added protection versus instructions included on how to apply the product. I used a mix of dish soap with water to spray the back of the sticky part of the movie and the top of the zone applied onto. I squeegeed the water out with a little plastic squegee. Primary install like window tint for those that have done e movie has a amazing stick to the zone of the washer/dryer. Only time will tell how well it will handle to the daily abuse of washing and drying. At least, for now, the washer and dryer have a protective movie to give them a bit more protection and hold them looking ded some images with the movie applied. If you look closely, you can see the edge of the film.
Purchased this to place on one zone of my vehicle that usually gets scratched from getting in/out (just behind the door). The zone is relatively flat and I had a tough time getting it on without air bubbles. Seems you have to push very hard with a squeegee in to prevent air bubbles and even then, I still had problem making it completely air bubble free. It isn’t impossible to obtain the bubbles out but it requires you to peel back the movie which was already adhered to press out the bubbles. Doing this caused some strange stretch/glue lines showing up during the installation. Definitely do not this if it is your first time working with vinyl.
The clearbra is harder to work with than regular 3M scotchprint. I had difficulties getting the air bubbles out using my squeegee and it doesn't stretch and mold to the curves of the vehicle as at being said, I'm glad I have it installed under the Q clips of my yakima rack!
Prior to this product, I bought the 3M Movie from Vvivid in 2016 and applied it to the interior vehicle door panel, which is vinyl, to protect it from my puppy - works great! I later bought this non-3M products from Vvivid in 2017, the 6" width worked just okay, it stuck but didn't stretch or wrap as well as the 3M brand. I also bought Vvivid's 12" and it did not stick at all to the vinyl, however it does stick to painted metal. I realize I am using it in a non-standard app but I am comparing it to the 3M product which works amazing and does stretch nicer.
I was looking for some kind of tape more like a silicone tape to cover the control buttons on my NuWave cooktop that have now for several years and love and used all the time but constantly depressing the buttons cuz them to crack and peelI've used clear tape and didn't stick properly your product work magnificently thank you
The plastic was too stiff, did not have enough elasticity to conform to contours. Instead it would just fold and ridge. Heat didn't help. Instead of using one piece to cover my project, I had to chop smaller pieces to cover the area. I had to work it down so much that the adhesive had to be nearly dry to adhere. This turned the adhesive into a milky paste before I could obtain the pieces to adhere. My advice: spend more money, obtain a better plastic. I'll be replacing this as soon as the fresh items arrives.
I use this movie on my Harley Tri-Glide fenders. The 8" wide is just the right width. It's is simple to apply if you are patient and follow the instructions. It is very amazing protection versus stone chips and abrasions. If it gets damaged it can be replaced with relative ease. You can't beat the and you shouldn't ignore the risk of stone chips.
This works well I just want the movie was a bit thicker, but it works as is. I used this in the past to cover high use locations on y truck. Also tried to use a thicker no name brand. It had glue which would not release air bubbles. Spray first with soapy water, position, then work out bubbles with a plastic straight edge.
first try, had my fingerprints on sticky side, tried again more carefully, same problem, tried a 3rd time with latex type gloves, same problem. so I can see excellent forensic quality finger prints from touching the back side during install. not sure how to avoid, maybe use tweezers to apply? material is very thick. it says its virtually invisible when installed but obviously not. still a high quality 3m product but couldn't obtain air bubbles and fingerprints out. I give 4 stars because the issues were getting it installed versus a issue with the product itself
