Gary D Schmidt has done it again! His books are always captivating and emotionally wrenching, but at a level that young people can really obtain into. Orbiting Jupiter is no exception, though instead of being aimed at middle grade kids, it is definitely for high school age teens. My own children can't wait to obtain their hands on it!Life seems to have thrown Joseph Brook under the bus. He's lost his girlfriend, they took away his baby, and he's been jailed. After a long line of tragedies, he has finally ended up living on a farm with a foster family. Joseph doesn't trust anyone anymore, and unfortunately, a lot of at his fresh school feel the same method about him. But Jack, Joseph's foster brother, sees something in him and won't allow Joseph obtain beaten down or lose hope. Jack has Joseph's back, and he means to support Joseph search his infant daughter, no matter what.I'm not ashamed to admit that I totally cried at the end!
This book, wow! Gary D. Schmidt did a unbelievable job giving insight into a complex hero and the need for understanding, empathy, compassion & acceptance. I think this is a amazing read for mature middle school students and high school students as well as adults. Amazing conversations can be generated from the behaviors of the characters, topic content and feelings inspired from reading this novel. This is a amazing novel for teachers to use when looking for text to use with teaching or discussing social comprehension.
Gary D. Schmidt is able to capture the nuances of life so perfectly in just a few words. In Orbiting Jupiter he shares the heartbreak, the joys, and the personalities of humanity. More than anything, I read his books because they create me feel alive. For a brief time the successes, or setbacks, of Jack and his foster brother Joseph-- are every one of his books we search characters that we can relate to. Characters we despise and characters that are the heroes of this crazy world. Jack, even though he's only in the 6th grade, is someone I can look up to as he tries his best to do what he feels to be right and to unconditionally provide the help and "have Joseph's back" as Joseph tries to overcome the issues that life has beset him with and search his (Joseph's) daughter-- is book has both sad and satisfied moments, and while the overall tone might be considered by a lot of to be dark I think the challenge is to search the satisfied things-- come what may.I would highly recommend this book to almost anyone. It's content, although certainty not graphic, alludes to very true issues that might be disturbing to very young readers (e.g., younger than 12) but I definitely think that it's worth the time it takes to read/listen to it.I don't wish to leave any spoilers so this review is beautiful much done.
This story about 14 year old Joseph's quest to find, Jupiter, his daughter touched my heart. As a ward of the state he is brought to the Hurd family as a foster child, suspicious and untrusting of everyone. The book is told from the pov of 12 year old Jack Hurd, who ends up closely bonding with Joseph. What I loved about this book was the method the author shows the maturity of these two young boys but they don't seem "old". In other words, they still have their youthful childlike outlook. Joseph may seem like an old soul in a young man's body but he has a naivety about him that grabbed me. You'll need a box of tissues for this short and satisfying read. Attractive attractive story.
This work is slightly outside my usual range, so as always, do not allow my star count override your judgement of content. More on the stars, counting, and my rating challenges later. Your private rating may well be higher. Let’s obtain to the amazing the very first poem, Letters and Visits, you will experience the range of a typical Podlipny poem. And, it ends with this: “The worst crime /is depriving someone of love /forever defining them as such /without questioning the sentence or the judge.”For social commentary, turn to High Tech. Here the use of ultrasound is questioned on a moral commentary is writ huge in The River of Fortune, where kids dive for coins. This poem ends with this surprise image: “so, in to survive /like kingfishers in a clanking hailstorm /the kids must dive.”Podlipny can do descriptive/experience poems, as in The Fisherman. Here is a snippet: “Nothing waits /not even tactical ticks perched on blades...”Depression: turn to Opt Out, which does have a sort-of reassuring at should give you a feel for this book. Now for my star count counts are always (for me at least) the hardest part of a review. My private guidelines, when doing an ‘official’ KBR review, are as follows: five stars means, roughly equal to best in genre. Rarely given. Four stars means, extremely good. Three stars means, definitely recommendable. I am a tough reviewer. I test hard to be consistent. Three stars from this curmudgeon is a clear Book Review Squad member.
I completely endorse the views of the reviewers who preceded me here. In this enlightening album, Kapilow analyzes Mozart's Symphony No. 41, pulling pieces apart and reassembling them to present how the composer constructed a masterpiece. Even for someone like myself, with no musical training or understanding to speak of, it was pure illumination. For the insight it gives, this release is highly recommended!
The musically talented among us who are born with the ability to understand and appreciate melody may not need this, but I would have benefited a lot of times by being taught some principles of how to listen to music. This CD helps fill that gap, answering questions like, "Why are we repeating this section again (and again)?", and showing the layers of complexity in an orchestration. By the end of the selection, I was hoping to take family member's to one of Kapilow's lecture/concerts.
Rob Kapilow's lecture of Mozart's Jupiter Symphony is very educational and entertaining. Even listeners who are familiar with this masterpiece will search much to learn and have fun here, and virtually hear it with a fresh set of ears. Years ago Leonard Bernstein also recorded classical albums with lectures, such as Beethoven's 3rd & 5th symphonies, Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique, and others. They were all wonderful, and hopefully Sony will release them again. It's nice that Rob Kapilow has picked up the torch from Bernstein, I hope that a lot of more installments will follow. Rob, uses both his piano and a full symphony orchestra to illustrate his points along the way. A complete performance of the Jupiter Symphony concludes the CD.Highly recommended.
This CD is useful for both the amateur and the professional. Kapilow's insights into Mozart and particularly the Jupiper Symphony have both enlightened and inspired me. The simplicity of his language, the use of numerous excepts of this symphony opened up a fresh light on Mozart. This is the best thing since Bernstein. I use these ideas in teaching melody rome MalekSan Antonio, TX
I heard Robert Kapilow doing a segment on classical melody on CBC radio and then I went on a find for more from him which brought me to amazon and these CD's of his. I ordered them on faith and that faith has been rewarded. I can't sing or play an instrument but I love this melody and I was thrilled to learn why I love it. I played one in my vehicle on a trip into the town and I had my son with me. First of all he complained that he wanted to listen to "his " melody but I said I required to listen to is very informative but done in a very entertaining method as well. Plus the melody is really great. The next time we went on a trip into the town which takes 40 minutes. he casually asked if I brought the other CD with me so I could force him to listen to the other one too. The funny thing is that even though I consider myself musically illiterate I now am picking up on the reasons why I like this amazing melody when I listen to other pieces that I also just like.
An artificial intelligence with a sense of humor and a skillful use of sarcasm is easily my favourite character. Trips to visit the moon and the moon's of Jupiter are presented with the same attitude shown with visiting McDonald's for breakfast meal or ordering in a pizza. Mixing equal parts of impossible weirdness with every day boring happenings makes for perfect escapism.
And not just the AI. Russians too, as you wend your method home by method of Jupiter for a gravity assist. The Jupiter Catastrophe fleshes out more of the human race in space, tying together the Enceladus series and other novels. Brandon Morris has lots of fun with it too, and so shall you.
I'm an avid reader of sci-fi and fantasy. This series is a amazing addition to my collection of must reads. I like the nuances in characters the interplay and general direction of where the series is going. So I'm signing my self up for this cruise that V.R. has made for all us earth bound folk. My bags are packed and I have even got my munchies for the next street trip! So where we headed? And as my children are always prepared to ask....Are we there yet? Well are we?! He hit me!!! Mmmoooom.... I don't have anything amazing to read... And so I'll be waiting just as impatiently as my kids for the next in the series.
This prints BEAUTIFULLY, and since it's light - it didn't jam my printer. It also is sturdy enough to work as a card - though it's not entirely card stock. This paper is an simple method to print attractive (but inexpensive) paper e only problem was that I ordered two packs of 50 before realizing there was a 250 package at the same price. That was a small disappointing - but what to do.
I love the look of this paper. It is. Eautiful. I have been told it is perfect to use when using Stampscapes stamps. If you wish a paper where dye inks slide and blend well, this would be an perfect choice. Ink does slide on it easily and it seems slow to dry. You will either love it or hate it.
I had a pad of mixed 'metallic' papers from another company that included a 'Gold Leaf' 80lb color, but ran out in the middle of a huge project. I found this paper and it looked like it would match. It arrived literally 3 days after I ordered it. It's attractive and it was a spot-on excellent match. It's 80lb, but closer in weight to massive copy paper than it is to cardstock. This company (Curious Metallic) makes the same color/finish in a heaver 92 lb weight, but I required the lighter weight for my project. It's silky with a pearlized shimmery finish, and it's the same on both sides so you could create amazing boxes or 3-D projects from it. I used Tombow white glue and Tombow tape runner to adhere my layers of this paper to my card project and the glues held very well. I don't know if you can inkjet print on it because of the sheen, but I'll bet you could rubber stamp on it using Staz-on ink, and I may give that a test very soon. Thank for shipping to quickly too. Helped me obtain my project done on time.
I recently purchased this paper to create paper flowers. The color description is "Gold", but no worries, it doesn't look like Gold Lemay. To me, the color is like that of a gold nugget. It is 81 lb text weight, just the right malleability for bending flower petals. I created paper freesias, and the color is just stunning. I used a lo-temp glue gun for the project, and the paper glued together with ease. I will be purchasing more for Christmas projects.
We required some metallic paper to create medals for an awards ceremony that would be lightweight enough to go through our printers. We worried if paper at such a amazing would actually have that metal look. We were delighted with what we received. The paper has a very metallic [email protected]#$%!&? ran through our lower end printers without a problem. You do have to allow the printed stuff sit a few mins to dry thoroughly before cutting things out as the ink can smear if you touch it too soon. We created gold, silver and bronze (actually copper paper) medals which really shined especially after we laminated e paper arrived at our school very quickly. It was actually here ahead of predicted delivery date.
Before purchasing this book, I've read this author's first book -- Several books discussing this particular topic exist on the market. Thanks for deciding to read this book. I would recommend to aspiring data scientist of all levels especially to those who are eager to obtain more exposure to machine learning. This book is one of the better written machine learning book who should be a mandatory read on the subject.
Very amazing intro book for beginners. The book give me an overview as well as why physon is a amazing tool for ML, and the major types of ML. I read this book in a week before taking online courses. That helps.

I guess I'm the first to rate the book lower than 4-5 stars. First of all, spell check and grammar check. Or at the very least, have even an amateur proof read the book. The general descriptions in the first part of the book were decent. But then the code didn't work - which is the basic reason I bought the book. I downloaded the newest ver of python. Code lines were provided with no explanation whatsoever of what it was to do or potential issues. Some of the functions didn't work at all as is and needed other steps not explained. The author skips some fairly necessary absolute beginner things like what pip is and that you have to run it from the old dos prompt, not from within python. I spent many, a lot of hours researching fixes and eventually ran into resources with much better explanations and code that actually worked and were explained. I'm glad other readers were able to obtain more out of the book.
This is a amazing book if you wish to understand Python Machine Learning. I really like the method for the author takes us inside the Beginners Tutorial to Programming and Deep Learning would recommend these books anyone looking.I really have fun this book, it breaks everything down very well and actually explains everything in an understandable way. I learned a lot from this book.
This book is amazing at introducing machine learning concepts to the beginning user. I would recommend learning python before or as you read this book as the script in the book can be hard to understand and work through for someone fresh to Python.
