Duelo is one of the best tejano-norteno-contemporaneo bands out there. Their style is unique, fresh, and just great. The guys are extremely talented. Oscar Ivan writes almost EVERY song in this CD. Any baile you go to where Duelo is performing will be FULL. I recommed this CD, as well as all their others.

I've been using this as an accurate dream translator and the interpretation of my dreams and my girlfriend's dreams has been helpful in identifying what's going on, things to come, and what to do to create the future brighter. I have a spanish to english application that translates pictures for it. I don't speak Spanish

There is nothing poor about this album. It contains the relaxing "En el Muelle de San Blas" and the darker "Hechicera", both of which are simply wonderful. While I am not fluent enough in Spanish to grasp the original intent and meaning behind the lyrics, it is possible to understand enough to obtain the point of the song and have fun it. And even if you dont know a word of spanish, the melody is enough to relax you and stick in your head. Yet another sweet album by these Grammy winners.

    E. Chabrier: Suite Pastorale Habanera/ Espana / Larghetto / Ouverture De Gwendoline / Prelude Pastoral / Marche Francaise / Fete Polonaise []  2020-1-23 2:57

Emmanuel Chabrier (1841-1894) is a very fine composer of the nineteenth century. He was born in Ambert, France, a town better-known for its cheeses, among others the Fourme d'Ambert, and its special round city-hall.He composed a lot of pieces for the amazing society of that century. So it is light, entertaining, at times slightly country-minded. Some of the pieces on this record are universally known, such as España, though nearly no one knows the composer. The main point of this recording shows an essential element about France. This French composer is directed by an English Director, played by an Austrian orchestra and recorded under a German label. France looks down upon her own artistic production. It is a drama for France today. Our composers, playwrights and artists are better known in foreign countries than in France will like this light and very expressive music. And you will have fun this melody as a melody that is practically never performed in France. Shame on this country that should invest heavily in her heritage and that rejects it massively. Luckily, the English, the Austrians, the Germans and the Americans are saving France's heritage and arts. Enter this delicate globe of melody and you will be mesmerized by its subtlety and its joyfulness.Dr Jacques COULARDEAU, Paris Universities II and IX.

I can't say enough about Chabrier's larghetto for horn and orchestra- it is one of the most thoroughly enjoyable pieces of melody in existence. don't be expecting a bunch of quick scales and arpeggios and malarkey, the solo line isn't technically showy at all; but nonetheless this is one of the most evocative and emotionally moving pieces ever written for french horn. listen instead to the purity of Janezic's tone- it is really really incredible, and if you have older speakers the first few bars of unaccompanied horn might even create your mid-range cones clip because the notes are so wondefully so, a note on the unique horns used by the Vienna philharmonic- they are equipped a unique type of valve (actually called a "Vienna valve") that is much more acoustically efficient than a standard rotary valve, but these valves are also much more bersome to use. this valve design is what gives a Vienna Philharmonic horn its rich vocal quality and variability of character. this exceptional tone in the hands of a player as talented as Janezic gives a result, leaving no tip of the valve's bersome nature, that must be heard to be believed- even the pedal tones sound effortless. if you buy this cd, which i highly recommend that you do, you can see a image of Janezic with his odd-looking horn on the latest page of the booklet.

Mana is absolutely the best, of course, and of all their albums this is my favorite. Every single one of the songs is worth it but I wanted to address an problem that surprised me a little, something that nobody seems to have encountered: At the end of the entire CD, on the track of "Amame hasta que me muera" there is a short pause, after which you can hear these almost satanic-like sounds, which makes me think of all those times you hear about cd's having "satanic" bits in them or if you play them backwards or something like that, and then these horrifying growling words (I speak both spanish and english fluently and could not recognize any of them) that sent goosebumps all over my body! I just wish to know what the heck this is all about!

    E. Chabrier: Suite Pastorale Habanera/ Espana / Larghetto / Ouverture De Gwendoline / Prelude Pastoral / Marche Francaise / Fete Polonaise []  2020-1-23 2:57

For me, listening to Emmanuel Chabrier is pure bliss. His melody drips with amazing melodies and textures, and while not an overt "folk song" composer, his melody often captures that e Suite Pastorale is just that, musical pastoral scenes; from the lilting idyll, to the village dance, the pastoral lullaby, and finally the finishing waltz. So lushly orchestrated, it is like being ensconced in a dream, a mixture of romanticism and impressionism. Along with amazing flowing melodies, Chabrier has a sense of humor and the playful dances present that quality quite well. A trip to Spain seems to have influenced the compositions Habanera and the popular Espana. These have a definite spanish dance feel with witty orchestral interjections; amazing fun featuring all the instruments/sections of the orchestra. The larghetto is a sappy hero piece for horn and orchestra. This is the one work on the CD (in my own opinion) that doesn't work. Gardiner goes method too quick and pushes and pulls the melody method too much (much more than is notated). Too poor really, because it is a lovely e Gwendoline overture is a grandiose work, achetypal to the Romantic Period. The opera it comes from is set on the coast of England in the 8th Century; it is a bit heavy-handed and in your face, excellent for a heroic tale, featuring brass more than Chabrier usually does. In opposition to the overture is the pastoral prelude. Much in the style of the pastoral suite, it is very much a attractive country idyll, featuring quaint strains from the strings and woodwinds. The disk closes with two outgoing and buoyant works, the Marche Francaise and the Fete Polonaise. The former starts a small off kilter but moves into a rollicking horn melody, showing Chabrier's ability to place extroverted and introverted side by side. The Fete Polonaise is a waltz which enjoys displacing the beat. Gardiner's interpretation is interesting, giving less of the "fete" and more of the "polonaise", again playing with the tempos a little.A full Chabrier CD is nice to find. Although much of this melody could be considered light melody (none of the works go much beyond ten minutes), all are quite engaging. There is a lot of attention to musical detail on this disk apparent from the very beginning. A nice balance is elicited from the Vienna Philharmonic, with amazing info shining through (the harp for example). A few holes exist from the Gardiner interpretation, but overall, the disk is a success.

    E. Chabrier: Suite Pastorale Habanera/ Espana / Larghetto / Ouverture De Gwendoline / Prelude Pastoral / Marche Francaise / Fete Polonaise []  2020-1-23 2:57

Gardiner established some Chabrier credibility with his excellent, and necessary, 1984 Lyon recording of the complete comic opera L'ÉTOILE (Erato or EMI), leading an idiomatically French orchestra and singers of like persuasion. In 1995 a modern digital Chabrier spectacular was overdue, and producers Roger Wright and Ewald Markl brought Gardiner to Vienna to conduct the unbeatable VPO--usually my favorite recording orchestra--in repertoire quite unfamiliar to them. The results, despite Gardiner's and the mighty band's creds, were almost uniformly ere are two exceptions: Gardiner finds an appropriately gentle groove for the opening SUITE PASTORALE, is not immune to the exquisite languor of "Sous-bois," and the horn LARGHETTO, very virtuosically played by Ronald Janezic, is a true Chabrier rarity and the only reason to keep on to this recording, which sounds more disappointing in each replay. Elsewhere and throughout, there are glaring issues with leaden or tentative tempi, questionable articulation and phrasing (though not by Janezic) and a terminally fatal lack of Gallic sparkle and insouciance, Chabrier's innate joie de vivre being conspicuously truant. Gardiner's butchering of the lovely HABAÑERA is especially shameful, the melody coming to dead halt with the VPO virtuosi muffing its Franco-Cuban rhythmic lilt. These are plodding, dutiful performances that tarnish the Gardiner and VPO erestingly, recording history was repeating itself: EMI brought Malcolm Sargent and the VPO together in 1963 sessions that, however mismatched the executants and repertoire, did some surprising and offbeat justice to the choicest Sibelius tone poems (Seraphim reissue), since Vienna sonorities are nonpareil in (almost) any repertoire. Here Maestro Gardiner, meaning well in advocating for Chabrier, is not really at fault, nor this amazing orchestra. The producers, however, should have known better, and historically DG have never done alien French melody with much distinction or enthusiasm. I stretch my own patience to give this poor set three stars--for LARGHETTO and PASTORALE alone--and reflect that it could have been worse, with Gardiner despatched to the Berlin Philharmonic, for any happening this blip in the Chabrier orchestral discography is not as wholly embarrassing as Neeme Järvi's dire Chabrier CD for Chandos, and intelligent collectors may prefer Michel Plasson's idiomatic but placid Chabrier discs created digitally in Toulouse (EMI). Chabrier remains best served by the classic og recordings--very tough acts to surpass--in mono and shaky stereo by Paul Paray, Thomas Beecham and Louis Fourestier, all of whom more exuberantly convey the sheer joy of being Emmanuel the Auvergne goatherd, Chabrier the Parisian boulevardier and Chabrier (like Lalo, Debussy and Ravel) the wannabe Iberian.

    E. Chabrier: Suite Pastorale Habanera/ Espana / Larghetto / Ouverture De Gwendoline / Prelude Pastoral / Marche Francaise / Fete Polonaise []  2020-1-23 2:57

The Penguin Tutorial (which is my favorite reference for recordings) referred to this CD as "disappointing". Now, before this CD, I was only familiar with España, which has been recorded a lot of times and you usually search it in recompilations of "Spanish based music" or encores, and not certainly with any other of Chabrier's compositions. So I basically decided to purchase this CD to obtain to know more of Chabrier's output and I have to say that I did not search anything disappointing in this recording, all by the contrary. Even comparing España with some other recordings I've come across, what the Penguin Tutorial mentioned in a rather scorning method as "over-enthusiastic" bass drum, was exactly what I found most appealing and has placed Gardiner's ver as one of my favorites(of course, when it comes to taste, nothing can be the absolute truth). The rest of the melody is very fine and accessible and I search it very well played, though I have no other point of reference. I specially recommend the Habanera, a very well written piece. I've heard that the old Paray recording is outstanding and this Gardiner's CD just enticed me to hold looking for more recordings of this music, which is an aspect that makes classical melody unique. The recording sound is perfect and both conductor an orchestra are perfect as well, despite the fact that none of them has never been associated to this kind of music.

    E. Chabrier: Suite Pastorale Habanera/ Espana / Larghetto / Ouverture De Gwendoline / Prelude Pastoral / Marche Francaise / Fete Polonaise []  2020-1-23 2:57

I approached this CD with caution. An English conductor and a Viennese orchestra playing Chabrier? Turns out my suspicions were correct. This is an unfortunate example of pairing the wrong conductor and the wrong orchestra with the wrong music. I like John-Elliott Gardiner in a lot of works -- he's about the best conductor of Percy Grainger you're ever likely to hear, for example. Similarly, the VPO is a very amazing orchestra for German melody ranging from Beethoven to Richard Strauss and even to Johnann Strauss. But in Chabrier, the effect is disappointing. There is no lilt to the melody -- in fact, it's blared out to us in an abrasive manner that is highly offputting. (The DGG early-digital sound is no support -- steely loud but with no depth.) There is absolutely no finesse and no joy; instead, the melody is just being pounded out. On top of that, Gardiner seems to be attempting to victory a relay race in some of the numbers, chief among them being an "Espana" performance that's played so fast, it turns into one huge though you might not guess from this recording, Chabrier's melody really can sing and dance. And to prove it, turn to one of several French interpreters. My private favorite is Paul Paray's Detroit Symphony CD on Mercury -- absolutely the most thrilling Espana ever committed to disk, along with a Suite Pastorale that is the epitome of charm and style -- pure gossamer. Under Paray, even the echt-Wagnerian overture to the opera "Gwendoline" comes across far more convincingly than with Gardiner/VPO. Other amazing French conductors in this repertoire are Michel Plasson and Pierre Dervaux, both on EMI CDs. Ansermet and Mari are less you have a couple other amazing alternatives to choose from in this program of music. There is only one piece in the program where I feel Maestro Gardiner hits the spot (the Habanera). Otherwise, unless you like rude surprises, I'd suggest you avoid this particular recording.

This review is for Suenos Liquidos by Mana on DVD-Audio. As someone who had only heard two of Mana's albums (one being the unplugged live album), I was literally blown away. The quality of the songs is highly commendable and the hi-resolution stereo and surround offered on the dvd-audio is very good, among the best that I've heard (and I've heard most of those dvd-audios considered collectors items). So, if you wish to hear something fresh and amazing in this rare format (DVD-Audio), I'd highly recommend this disc.

    E. Chabrier: Suite Pastorale Habanera/ Espana / Larghetto / Ouverture De Gwendoline / Prelude Pastoral / Marche Francaise / Fete Polonaise []  2020-1-23 2:57

Chabrier's whipped-cream confections were a staple in the kit bag of Sir Thomas Beecham, and I guess DG decided somewhere along the line that Gardiner was his heir apparent. For a brief while they place the Vienna Phil., no less, at Gardiner's disposal, so there's a guarantee that the recordings would glow. The orchestra plays this mostly unfamiliar melody with lovely tone and finesse. The missing ingredient is Beecham's infectious amazing humor and panache. Nothing goes wrong, but your spirits don't soar, either.I think the chief value of this CD is to gather so a lot of small gems from Chabrioer's output. You're unlikely to hear any but Espana and the Marche joyeuse on pops concerts, but here they are gleaming bright.

    E. Chabrier: Suite Pastorale Habanera/ Espana / Larghetto / Ouverture De Gwendoline / Prelude Pastoral / Marche Francaise / Fete Polonaise []  2020-11-10 19:6

Fabulous book! You will not be able to stop untill you finish the whole book. The main idea is very much like in Celestine Prophecy, The Secret, and What the bleep do we know. In short, it is about learning ones purpose in life, in finding ones way. When we live doing what we really wish to do, we are living our Historia Personal. To know what to do, one only has to know what one desires to do, for through our desires we learn about our private way, the point of our e books talks about the largest lie of all: That human life is determined by destiny and there is nothing we can do to change it. Meanwhile we are the only ones who determines our destiny. There is no limit to what one can do. As young people we know exactly what we wish and believe that everything is possible but as we obtain older we change our mind because every day we are hearing from people that this is not true.I enjoyed the book greatly and highly recommend it to all

*****5 Stars I am a native English speaker, but am reading this with my Spanish teacher (advanced intermediate level). It is a lovely book in Spanish, although originally written in Portuguese, and is a fabulous method to improve your vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation (if read out loud). More importantly, it is a truly perfect and attractive book. In fact, the story was so compelling that I stayed up all night to finish the book ahead of our readings for class. I look forward to moving on to other books by Paulo Coelho.

This is a amazing quality canned octopus, which I have purchased over a dozen cans of. Where Conservas de Cambados' (my favorite brand's) octopus is smaller and more tender, Matiz Gallego is larger, firmer, chewier, and leggier (or is it arm-ier?). I have had to slice each piece in half for recipes, as they would otherwise be too huge a biteful for me (long, curled tentacles with huge suction cups--image on the left is Matiz, compared to Conservas, on the right). The octopus itself has a very amazing flavor once it is drained (the oil it is packed in is supposed to be olive oil, and I hope it is, though the texture is thick and 'crude' enough to create me wonder--hence the 4 stars). I've had it with boiled and quartered potatoes (baby potatoes, if you can search them, or little red ones), sliced onions, a squeeze of lemon, some chopped parsley and a dash of paprika and himalayan salt. If you are adept at paella, you should add a can of this octopus. You don't have to be a pro to cook with canned octopus though--just add them to a nice wild rice or pasta dish, and enjoy.

Delivery took forever. Regardless, I was excited to test my first canned octopus. Totally nasty straight out of the can. It tastes like rotten tuna. I didn't wish to give up on a $8 can of meal though. I grated some new garlic and fried it and the octopus in olive oil for a few mins and finished it with Spanish hot pimenton, new parsley and a squeeze of new lemon juice. Delicious! The serving is beautiful measly though, probably only a 1/3 cup of octopus in a can.

Wow did not realize these were over $10 a can. I presumed there were 2 cans with each order. They’re awesome but $10 is ridiculous! You can buy the same octopus in a package of 5 (3 sardines and 2 octopus) for $26.99 which is method better value! For $7 more you’re getting 3 cans of sardines in addition to the octopus. The sardines are also amazing! I guess when I go to Spain this summer I’ll have to test and search them to bring back with me.
