Concise Dental Anatomy and Morphology []  2020-1-16 16:2

I have a love hate relationship with this book. It is exactly what is says: Concise. The book begins with a general discussion of anatomy and morphology and then delves into an approximate 25 page discussion over each type of tooth (incisors, canines, etc...). It then goes into root morphology, basic teeth and dental anomalies. The book is only around 200 look at it and think: man that couldn't be that hard; however, after reading it you realize why it is only 200 pages. 90% of the book is simply a very detailed description of the tooth, no more no less. The book has pictures in the margins (haha...) that accompany the descriptive e pictures are nice, but very few are actually labeled. So sometimes you search yourself looking at a tooth and saying, "Is this the mesial view or distal, buccal or lingual, etc..." This seems to be a common theme in dental anatomy textbooks and I think this is its greatest e other huge drawback is the organization of the sections. I found it exceedingly difficult to locate the exact description when reviewing material. It has letters, roman numerals and numbers dividing up subsections over the teeth, and there are no lines dividing the pages, nor bolded words and very few underlined words. So when you wish to review what the mesial view of X tooth looks like, you have to dig a small and search that subheading hidden in the page. There are no charts either, which I search one of the most effective ways of learning material where subjects are closely e descriptions are good, but at times a small wordy. I have found a few mistakes, but nothing too big. Overall, this book is acceptable and doesn't throw in any clinical correlations and has few superlatives (like MOST common missing tooth, LEAST common, etc...). Our tests ask us mostly questions that have to be inferred from the text because the text does not ponder on clinical correlates or have a lot of comparisons between teeth. In addition, it does not have (and you shouldn't expect it to have) e book is a dense read, and I have to read each chapter twice to really absorb the information. It is definitely adequate for primary dental anatomy and learning what the teeth (should) look like. I think it is a solid 3 stars, but not more.

this book is all about images and pictures which lack of explanation , not enough theory at all, plus it is not same as the book's description, i think i have wasted huge cash for just 80 pages,i can write better than the author, i am so disappointed , i swear there is almost nothing to read in this book, i guess the author wrote this book while he was having bath or while he was falling asleep because there is not much effort writing this book, trust me no one needs to waste 400 $ for such a not good and verry primary book

As a spinal patient, this book had much to offer me in the method of info and photography. The MRI images are clickable so you can obtain a proper viewpoint. I did learn more about the different spinal diseases and injuries, including my own. Highly recommend to a more professional reader as the language is clearly medical in nature. I am well versed in the lingo so as a patient was able to glean quite a bit from the book.

The Facercise program is amazing. The book is very difficult to follow, unfortunately. I ended up buying the video for it that’s also available on Amazon, and once I *saw* the exercises performed, *then* the book created sense! If you were to buy only one (book or video, which cost $25), I’d say go for the video. For the first 5 days I did the exercises twice a day, and saw dramatic results. I continue to do them every evening before bed, for months now. That’s because whenever I stop for a couple of days, I see little reversals in the improvement I had created in my face. You really have to hold it up. But I’ve definitely noticed my jaw is tighter, my slight double chin is gone, my eyebrows are higher, and the “11’s” lines between my eyebrows are less indented. I will continue to do these face exercises because the difference is dramatic and only takes a few days to begin seeing a difference (for better, when you do them, and for worse, when you don’t). The 5 Stars is for the Facercise program in general, but the book itself is nearly useless without the video, in my opinion.

The majority of this book drones on and on about the benefits of her program, rather than focusing on better descriptions and pictures for the 13 exercises it contains. There are 132 pages with approximately 100 of them being a lot of mambo jumbo chatter we could do without. Very disappointed that with all those pages only a couple images are given per exercise that don't give a amazing visual of what you are supposed to be doing. I had expected more photos to visually detail each phase of the exercise, but that is not how it is with this e written descriptions of the exercises are very complicated and difficult to grasp. Carole's explanations for us on how to perform these are not very well thought out, nor are the limited photos provided . She should have more images or supporting facial diagrams that point to each of the locations you need to touch, stretch, or rub across. I would much rather have paid for a short 35 or 40 page ver of this book if it had more details, photos, and better descriptions of the exercises, instead of this lengthy novella that really doesn't focus on the reason I purchased it--how to do the exercises! Unfortunately, there is no method to return this book, otherwise I would!

I love the concept, but am having difficulty understanding how to perform the exercises correctly based on her instructions, which are rather vague and confusing. For example, "smile with the middle of the upper lip" or "squeeze the corner of your mouth as if sucking on two little lemons" or "visualize the sides of your face moving up along the sides of your head" - what in the globe does that mean? Only one or two images are provided for each exercise. Perhaps the DVD would be better.

I have this book on my Kindle, but I purchased it after already owning the original Facercise book by Maggio. The original book is very amazing and has easy-to-follow instructions of the exercises, but this newer updated ver uses various people throughout the book to demonstrate the exercises. I found it much easier to follow the exercises in the first book because they were all demonstrated by one person (Maggio herself). The original book is just much more clear about what to do, and I search the exercises in the original book do produce results. I read through this newer ver once and then went back to the original book. I want i had never purchased this one.

This was the first book that I purchased on facial exercising. When my husband found out I ordered this book man did he ever mock me. But I stayed the course did the exercises and in a few weeks he admitted he could tell it was doing something. I appreciate what I learned in this book yet I had a hard time with the whole "visualization" aspect of some of the exercises (some of the exercises I stopped doing because I just plain couldn't figure out what I was supposed to be doing). All around I also felt it was limited in the range of exercises contained as compared with other programs out there. This created me (and my husband) a believer in facial exercising, yet the only reason for the three star rating is just the limited aspect of it, it's only "ok".

I want I could tell every woman who is concerned with the aging of her face (and maybe thinking about doing something risky, expensive and unnatural) about the "miracle" of Facercise. I have used Ms. Maggio's original program, Facercise, for years and am delighted with the results. Now I do the original program in the morning and Ultimate Facercise in the evening. Of course, there is a learning curve, but once you master the easy exercises, it takes just a short, relaxing while to do them each a.m and p.m. I had a personal session with Ms. Maggio (we are the same age) and I can assure you her images are not doctored.

I started to see results in a week. I'm only 24 and my face was sagging beautiful bad. I just always looked tired or bored. I started only using the forehead exercises (where my sagging was the worst) and saw lift after about three days of exercises. I've since added the nose, face filler and the one that lifts the corners of your mouth. I'm excited to learn and test more exercises!

This is an okay introduction to facial exercises, which are intended to improve tone and overall appearance of the face by strengthening underlying muscles. This book was one of the first instructional tutorials I saw for facial exercise. Before I ordered the book, I watched videos on YouTube that showed some exercises, not all by Carole Maggio. When I received this book, I realized how difficult it is to do the exercises from a still image and some printed instructions on the page. I think a video, whether it is DVD or streaming on the Internet, is much better. You can see the actual movements and positions. Another necessary factor is your breathing and how long you keep each position. Sometimes you might count to 10 for each repetition. For another exercise it may be more than that. I believe facial exercises do work in improving the tone and appearance of the face. But you have to have amazing instruction and really understand each movement. To do that effectively, you need to watch a video demonstration. I've studied other programs, such as face yoga. I think you can obtain something out of most of them. Carole Maggio DVDs were quite expensive the latest time I ped for one. This book is more like a brochure. If you really wish to follow a program and reap the benefits, search a video.

I found it much easier to follow the exercises in the first book because they were all demonstrated by one person (Maggio herself). The original book is just much more clear about what to do, and I search the exercises in the original book do produce results. I read through this newer ver once and then went back to the original book. I want i had never purchased this one.

Furthermore, I was surprised by how deep this problem runs in our society in ways I didn't even realize, and I've now caught myself paying closer attention to how certain messages regarding beauty pervade in my life.

Concise Dental Anatomy and Morphology 4th (fourth) edition by Fuller, Jim published by University of Iowa College of Dentistry (2001) [Paperback] []  2021-2-2 19:38

Beauty Sick: How the Cultural Obsession with Appearance Hurts Girls and Women []  2020-1-8 18:53

I thought this was for the most part a very insightful and thought-provoking book, and it struck me as being an accurate portrayal of current reality. I didn’t see any practical solutions being offered, but that didn’t really seem to be the goal or purpose of the book (and probably would take another book altogether to accomplish). One thing that was brought up throughout the book particularly pestered me during and after reading it - the idea that if women were taught to value our bodies for what they could do instead of what they looked like, we would love our bodies more. Well, what if our bodies can’t do very much? Sure, if we’re alive, our bodies are doing *something*. But that is not going to support too a lot of women to appreciate their bodies very much - “your body is at least keeping you alive for the moment!” is simply not very r the "average" girl or woman, switching their focus to what their body is able to do instead of their physical appearance probably does do wonders for their happiness, confidence, etc. But let’s stop for a second right there. The “average girl or woman” part. How about those of us who are already thinking - a LOT - about what our bodies are able to do, and therefore what our bodies AREN’T able to do, and that feeds quite a bit into our views of ourselves? Perhaps as we’ve gotten older, our bodies can’t move like they used to, can’t obtain us from put to place, and hurt. Can’t hear the things they used to hear, obtain sick easier, know that our bodies are closer and closer to finally giving out on us? What about those of us who were born without sight, without hearing? What about those of us who were born with heart defects, genetic abnormalities, different diseases that we deal with everyday? So that we have to war to be able to do the things that the “average girl or woman” doesn’t even think about, if we can even do it at all, ever? This list goes on and is book completely ignores and glosses over this reality, doesn't touch on it at all. If it at least acknowledges it and attempted to offer some solutions (or even other resources) for how to have a better photo of your body when it ISN'T capable of a lot of things, that would have been much better. (My body scares me, if I let myself to think about it. It is a threat to my life thanks to chronic illness. I'm not really in love with what my body can do, or what it can't do.)

The Beauty Bias: The Injustice of Appearance in Life and Law []  2020-11-25 20:5

Good: This book addresses a very necessary topic, raises a lot of relevant issues, makes some necessary points, and is beautiful shortBad: The arguments are often beautiful quick - Rhode prefers to skim over a lot of the key problems in feminism by glossing over things and deciding to focus on "refocusing the feminist critique" (pg 88) which is really just code for 'I'm going to ignore a lot of the deeper challenges to my work that come from different strands of feminism and instead create fairly uncontroversial points.' For a subject this interesting it would be amazing to have a more detailed, strenuously defended it stands, sympathetic readers are going to want there was more substance, and hostile readers are going to search plenty of holes to poke. The book also includes a few factual mistakes and hasty over-generalizations, which it could certainly have done without.Overall: Worth reading if you're interested in the subject and wish to obtain some of the problems out onto the table, but not so amazing for digging really deep and figuring items out for good.

Beauty Sick: How the Cultural Obsession with Appearance Hurts Girls and Women []  2020-1-8 18:53

Every woman or anyone raising a girl should read this book. Since I've read the book I've been remembering so a lot of instances when concern about my appearance overshadowed more necessary ideas. When my parochial school forbade girls from wearing pants so we weren't allowed to hang on the monkey bars or slide down the sledding hill for fear we'd present our underwear and be "unladylike". Or when I hesitated to apply for a corporate job for fear I wouldn't be able to "dress corporate" enough. The impossible standards stare us in the face on every red carpet, on magazine covers and in anchorwoman chairs on the nightly news. Imagine what we'd attain if we didn't spend all that cash and energy attempting to be something different. Dr. Englen's exploration of the subject and real stories create this a very readable book, even an enjoyable one as she provides hope and ideas for doing things differently.

A well written book on a complicated subject. It is not a read once and but it on the bookshelf book. It is an invaluable reference.

Very interesting, but too technical for "in bed reading". I didn't finish reading it. I usually search that books by journalists are fun and simple to read and books by professors are not.

The subject of the book is very interesting yet I fell like a paper would have been more appropriate because after chapter 3 it is just too repetitive. The introduction gives a amazing idea and actually makes you expect a lot from the book, however I feel that it actually givesThe whole book away because after it there are no more surprises, same examples, same arguments with no more depth or data.

The Beauty Bias: The Injustice of Appearance in Life and Law []  2020-11-25 20:5

The Beauty Bias is a strong attack on what the author, with some justification, considers a superficial society that values appearance, especially in women, over almost everything else. Most of us who have taken Psych 101 have heard of the halo effect, the tendency to consider beautiful people smarter and kinder than less beautiful people. Although she doesn't use that term, Professor Rhode shows how much hurt it is causing people. My favorite example of absurdity (and ism)was that of Sarah Palin's campaign, who spent more on her makeup expert than on her foreign policy free shop absolutist, Rhode argues persuasively that businesses should not have the right to discriminate versus someone because of their appearance. She makes a case that people discriminated versus because of appearance have every much as legal and moral right to sue in court as did the civil rights movement or any other cause. The Beauty Bias is an important, well-reasoned book that should be read by anyone concerned about these issues.

Color Appearance Models is the single best resource available regarding colour appearance. Tag D. Fairchild has compiled years of expertise in this volume that should be on the shelves of anybody serious about colour science.
